HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2015-2461 RESOLUTION NO. 2015- Z,t1 to I A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN "THE PRESTIGE EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL EVENTS ON THE BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS SERIES 2015-2016"; AUTHORIZING A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS OF FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FIU), IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed in participating and informing its residents of educational and cultural events and activities taking place iri and around our community; and WHEREAS, in partnership with Florida International University (FIU), the Prestige Educational and Cultural Events Series features events in collaboration with Academic and Student Programming on the Biscayne Bay Campus in partnership with the City of Sunny Isles Beach, BalyHarbour Village. the Town of Golden Beach. area businesses, and individual sponsors provides educational and culturally rich events for the community, at an affordable price; and WHEREAS, the Prestige Educational and Cultural Events Series will include at least twelve (12) events including specialty dining and wine tasting events, lectures by renowned experts in their respective fields, a Fine Arts Gallery opening in the Hubert Library, Performing Arts including music, theater and film, a Shakespeare touring exhibit, and many more; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to partner with FIU as a sponsor to present "The Prestige Educational and Cultural Events on Biscayne Bay Campus Series 2015-2016" in the donation amount of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) for educational and culturally rich events for the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: , Section 1. Approval of Partnership. The City Commission hereby approves the partnership between the City and Florida International University (FIU). Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Commission directs the City Manager to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution, which includes but is not limited to donating Five Thousand Dollars (56.000.00) to Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU for "The Prestige Educational and Cultural Events on Biscayne Bay Campus Series 2015-2016". The Prestige Educational and Cultural Events will include at least twelve (12) events, hosted by the Office of the Vice Provost, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, the School of the Environment, Arts, and Society (SEAS), Campus Life, Creative Writing, and the Hubert Library. Russo, City Manager FROM: Susan Simpson, Cultural & Community Services Director DATE: 9/17/2015 Partnership in the Prestige Educational and Cultural RE: Events program 2015-2016 with Florida International University RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached ' resolution to partner with Florida International University (FIU) as a sponsor to present the "Prestige Educational and Cultural Events on , the Biscayne Bay Campus 2015-2016" in the donation amount of Five Thousand Dollars (55,000). REASONS: In partnership with FIU, the Prestige Educational and Cultural Events program will host twelve culturally rich events for the community at an affordable price. These programs benefit the students and programs on the Biscayne Bay campus. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: As the City is the title sponsor of the FIU Prestige Educational and, Cultural Events program, Sunny Isles Beach residents will receive, discounted prices to all of the events in the program. i FUNDING SOURCE: Funding for the Prestige program is available in the General Fund in the Commission's budget account number 10.511.5490.
