HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2016-2520 RESOLUTION NO. 2016-2520 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE DONATION OF A SURPLUS POLICE VEHICLE (2005 FORD EXPLORER SUV) TO THE CRIME STOPPERS OF MIAMI DADE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; • PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach and its Police Department regularly "swaps out" or transitions its vehicle fleet as the vehicles age; and WHEREAS, after vehicles have surpassed their usefulness to the Police Department;in any capacity, they are sold for their value or donated to a worthy cause in need; and WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers of Miami Dade is an integral part of the law enforcement community by working in conjunction with all agencies to help solve crime of all types; and WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers of Miami Dade relies almost exclusively on the support and generosity of law enforcement agencies for in-kind or monetary donations to continue their work and are in need of an older model vehicle for transport of equipment, materials and resources to accomplish their tasks, and are in dire need of this donation; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to donate a surplus Police vehicle, a 2005 Ford Explorer SUV, Vin# 1FMZU72K25UB05721, with over 100,000 miles on it, to the Crime Stoppers of Miami Dade. • NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Donation of Surplus Police Vehicle. The City Commission hereby approves the donation of a surplus Police vehicle (2005 Ford Explorer SUV) to the Crime Stoppers of Miami Dade. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. Maas, Chief of Police DATE: 2/18/2016 Donation of Surplus Police Vehicle to Crime Stoppers of RE' Miami-Dade County RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve this Resolution authorizing the City Manager to donate a surplus police vehicle (a 2005 Ford Explorer S.U.V.) to the Miami Dade Crime Stoppers Agency, who is in dire need of this donation. REASONS: The City and its police department regularly "swaps out" or transitions its vehicle fleet as the vehicles age.After vehicles have surpassed their usefulness to the police department in any capacity, they are sold if they have value or donated to a worthy cause in need. Crime-Stoppers of Miami Dade is an integral part of the law enforcement community by working in conjunction with all agencies to • help solve crime of all types. Crime-Stoppers relies almost exclusively on the support and generosity of law enforcement agencies for in-kind or monetary donations to continue their work. Crime-Stoppers is in need of an older model vehicle of this specific type for transport of equipment, materials and resources to accomplish their tasks. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The city police department is exchanging out the above described 61 vehicle, with over 100,000 miles and its value is more to the Crime- Stopper Program than by attempting to sell. We respectfully request to do our fair share in assisting Crime-Stoppers who has always been ready to assist our police department in the solving of crimes thru public viewing assistance.
