The project goal is to reconfigure the Flagler Street from NW 2nd Ave to Biscayne Blvd, to provide wider sidewalks, selective parallel parking/loading
areas, grading/drainage improvements, and landscape and hardscape enhancements commensurate with a vibrant downtown commercial area.
The goal for these improvements is to provide areas for outdoor cafes, together with unified furnishings, lighting and landscape to enhance the
visitor experience of the area. Flagler’s long historic significance has been taken into consideration in the planning and design of these
improvements. Given that Flagler is the considered the City of Miami’s “main street”, many parties are involved in the planning and implementation
of the project. The project is being managed by the City of Miami’s Capital Improvements Division (CIP), working in conjunction with the Downtown
Development Authority (DDA), specifically with the Flagler Street Steering Committee. Cost: $ 8,800,000

Hialeah Cultural Park is envisioned to be a lush tropical park tucked into a quiet urban community. The neighborhood has little to no existing public
space amenities, so the City of Hialeah working with FPL found a creative way to provide much needed green space. The land, donated by FPL, is
an existing FPL transmission right-of-way currently not accessible to the public. FPL collaborated with our design team to create a park which fits
the functional requirements of a transmission right-of-way while providing a meandering path through rich vegetation for people to stroll and learn
about the rich history of Hialeah. The C+R team designed elements into the park plazas to enhance the story of Hialeah from its roots in the Native
Americans who named Hialeah (meaning “High Prairie”) to the Hialeah Park Racetrack today and through the future. The landscape within the
plazas will serve as a backdrop for local artists’ interpretive work throughout the park. Cost $2,000,000

(3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE Check if project performed with current firm
Curtis + Rogers was hired by the City of Coral Gables to develop a Tree Succession and Initiation Plan for the trees in single family residential
areas. The Curtis + Rogers’s team provided an evaluation of existing street trees, from a visual/horticultural conditions. The trees where mapped,
identified and conditions were added to them, and areas where trees were missing were identified as possible locations for tree replacements. Over
38,800 trees were evaluated. Curtis + Rogers attended community meetings to seek input and present preliminary findings. Ultimately the team
created maps for street planting themes, and listed the trees needing immediate replacement, identified locations for new trees and recommended
others for further evaluation in 5 years. Over 2500 trees are being replaced. This plan enabled the City to develop a program for systematic
replacement of trees to ensure the longevity of the canopy – which characterizes the City Beautiful. Cost: $3,000,000 for initial implementation

Originally lay out by Fredrick Law Olmstead protégé William Lyman Phillips, Fairchild has grown to become one of the world’s foremost collections

The plan for the Garden was developed in close collaboration with Garden staff. It restores and preserves the basic structure of the Phillips Plan,
while making improvements to facilities and infrastructure to accommodate the Garden’s increasing visitor ship. The plan calls for a new orientation
facility and improved parking at the Garden’s north end, providing opportunities for joint programs and interpretation of the native hammock areas in
the adjacent County park. The Garden’s existing building complex was renovated as an Education Center, to better support these important Garden
programs. The historic Phillips Gate, Fairchild’s original entrance, was also restored to serve as the entry for the Education Center and for special
Garden events. Cost: N/A

West Africa and appropriately provides access to the Metrorail Station. In 2005 the Trust for Public Land retained Mr. Marston to create a master

(3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE Check if project performed with current firm
The Flagler Street Corridor Improvement Project rehabilitates Miami’s historic main street as the foundation for a revitalized downtown Miami.
Named for Miami’s founder, Flagler Street was the original main street of the city and links the waterfront to a hub of civic institutions including the
Miami Dade Court House, the Claude Pepper Federal Building, The Miami Historical Museum and the main branch of the Miami Public Library. Once
the center of a major shopping district anchored by the flagship store of the department store chain Burdines, the street has deteriorated in recent
decades.
The objective of the Flagler Street Improvement Project was to restore six blocks of the street between the waterfront and the civic hub to a place of
importance within the city by revealing the character of its distinctive architecture and its significant position within the urban fabric. Key to this
objective was restoring two way traffic flow to improve access, reducing sidewalk clutter to ease congestion and facilitate outdoor dining and retail
displays, and enhancing the street environment through street trees, improved lighting and distinctive paving.
The design encompasses both the historic Miami Dade Court House and the Federal Building and sets the stage for the creation of a major urban
plaza and transportation hub at the west end of the improvement district as well as connection to Bay Front Park at its east end. and construction
began immediately. Cost: N/A

(3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE Check if project performed with current firm
We prepared a Landscape Master Plan for the entire Village of Key Biscayne, FL which enjoys outstanding natural beauty, a compelling sense of
place, lush landscaping, and a unique small-town ambiance that leads many residents and visitors to call it “Island Paradise.”
During the development of a comprehensive Landscape Master Plan, we worked closely with Village staff and the community to prepare a vision of
the island that significantly enhanced streetscapes, parks, civic and open spaces with a well-maintained subtropical plant palette best suited to Key
Biscayne’s sense of place. A major objective of the landscape master plan was to ensure the practice of responsible stewardship of the natural
environment by protecting the existing tree canopy, natural habitats, beaches, dunes and near shore water quality.
The master plan identified four “Early Action” projects, including East Enid Lake and Beach Parks, for which conceptual designs were prepared.
Ultimately, we expanded the Village’s array of passive parks, open spaces and active recreation facilities through carefully directed property
acquisition and redevelopment that includes small-scale neighborhood parks, aesthetically improved pedestrian, vehicular and bike ways and trails.

3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE Check if project performed with current firm
Vizcaya, the winter home of International Harvester vice president James Deering, is one of South Florida’s leading attractions. Completed in 1916 in
the Italian Renaissance style, the villa, its art and furnishings and gardens portray 400 years of European history. Nearly 200,000 people visit Vizcaya
each year including some of the world’s leading dignitaries. In 1994, the historic Summit of the Americas was held at Vizcaya with President Clinton
and the 34 leaders of the Western Hemisphere. Vizcaya’s significance to the history of the United States has lead to its designation as a National
Historic Landmark.
The Master Plan addressed the critical need to reconnect and integrate the estate with its “service“ village and the Museum of Science, and the
restoration of Vizcaya’s extensive Italianate gardens. In addition to planning services the consultant was retained to design an outdoor gallery to
display the museum’s orchid collection. In planning his winter estate, James Deering sent a note to his interior designer and artistic director for
Vizcaya, saying that he wanted to grow orchids at his home: “My idea about orchids was to have a place where they could be raised for the use of the
house,” he wrote. “I am very fond of them and would like an ample supply if it’s possible to have it.”
Using a multimillion-dollar gift from the late David Klein, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens realized this intention by establishing an orchid collection
housed in two new greenhouses and displayed in The David A. Klein Orchidarium. The gallery of orchids displays Vizcaya’s specimen orchids and is
in keeping with the Italianate architecture of the National Historic Landmark. Cost:N/A

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified
project required Shoreline Review and special planting considerations
because of its location next to the Bay as well as LEED principles.
Salt and drought tolerant plantings were used along with a reduction in
water use to create a signature landscape for this cultural facility. This
project was a finalist in the 2011 ULI (Urban Land Institute) Southeast
Florida Vision Awards. Cost: $ 7,750,000 Size: 13,000 sq ft.

24. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
The landscape development of this site, which
had been part of the Everglades in the 1900’s,
was based on the idea of restoring this unique
environment which still exists a few miles west of
the site. The project site has been filled and
prepared for development, however through
careful planning we propose to remove some of
this fill and restore and regenerate the previously
lost ecosystem. This new landscape
environment will serve to connect the
undeveloped portions of South Florida, with the
local community, by nestling this new Federal
Building within this context. The landscape
elements of the project are critical in that they will
serve multi-faceted roles – the reestablishment of
the relationship between the natural processes
and the human activity, the treatment of storm
water and its release to replenish lost wetlands,
provision of habitats for plants and animals
therefore contributing to the ecological diversity
and contributing to the physical and mental well
being of the users through their interaction with
nature.
Curtis + Rogers is pleased to have conceived the
“Everglades Landscape” concept for the GSA –
Federal Office Building in Miramar Florida which
was developed during the alternative concept
phase of the project. The approach will not only
greatly assist in successfully achieving credits for
the sustainable sites initiative, but will create a
unique and exciting approach to landscape
design in South Florida. The following GSA
Design Review Comments speak to their
enthusiastic endorsement of the concept and
their desire to see its successful implementation.

Curtis + Rogers was hired by the City of Coral Gables to develop a Tree Succession and Initiation Plan for the
trees in single family residential areas. The Curtis + Rogers’s team provided an evaluation of existing street trees,
from visual/horticultural conditions. The trees where mapped, identified and conditions were added to them, and
areas where trees were missing were identified as possible locations for tree replacements. Over 38,800 trees
were evaluated. Curtis + Rogers attended community meetings to seek input and present preliminary findings.
Ultimately the team created maps for street planting themes, and listed the trees needing immediate replacement,
identified locations for new trees and recommended others for further evaluation in 5 years. Over 2500 trees are
being replaced. This plan enabled the City to develop a program for systematic replacement of trees to ensure the
longevity of the canopy – which characterizes the City
Beautiful. Cost: $3,000,000

24. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
The Rickenbacker Causeway connects Key Biscayne to downtown Miami, crossing historic Virginia Key and the
artificial Hobie Island. The Causeway serves as an important transportation corridor, but also has approximately 2.5-
miles of recreational shoreline. These popular beaches are favorites for swimming and water sports including
kayaking, kite boarding, sailing and wind surfing. Coastal engineering analyses were completed to determine winds,
waves and sediment transport along the Project shoreline. Designs were developed for shoreline stabilization
including rock revetment, mangrove planter and beach nourishment stabilization.
The beach nourishment was designed to avoid impacts to sensitive seagrass beds immediately adjacent to the Project
shoreline. Sand sources were evaluated based on geotechnical analyses to determine the most economical and
compatible beach fill. The beach restoration project includes upland paving and grading as well as stormwater
management improvements. Field investigations were completed including hydrographic surveying and beach
profiling. Marine resource (seagrass) surveys were conducted, as well as upland native and exotic vegetation
mapping. The field data was utilized to design a beach restoration project that included upland paving and grading as
well as stormwater management improvements. The $6M project combined an extensive upland exotic vegetation
removal effort with replanting of native salt-tolerant species. In addition, mangrove planters were designed to
enhance the shoreline and protect existing mangrove vegetation.
Environmental regulatory permits for the project were processed through Miami-Dade Division of Environmental
Resources Management (DERM), the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers (Corps). Coastal Systems prepared construction plans and specifications in conjunction with
funding constraints and prioritized project elements established by the County. Construction was completed in 2010.
