A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, PURSUANT TO SECTION 5.1 OF
THE MUNICIPAL CHARTER, CALLING FOR A GENERAL ELECTION
TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2016, FOR THE PURPOSE
OF SUBMITTING TO THE ELECTORATE OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH THE NAMES OF ALL QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR
ELECTION TO THE POSITIONS OF CITY COMMISSIONER, SEAT 01
(NORTHERN RESIDENTIAL AREA), AND CITY COMMISSIONER,
SEAT 03 (SOUTHERN RESIDENTIAL AREA); PROVIDING FOR A RUN-
OFF ELECTION, IF NECESSARY, TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY,
DECEMBER 6, 2016; DESIGNATING ONE REGISTERED VOTER WHO
SHALL SERVE WITH THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CITY CLERK
AS THE CANVASSING BOARD FOR SAID RUN-OFF ELECTION;
PROVIDING FOR CONDUCTING THE ELECTIONS, POLLING
PLACES, FORM OF BALLOT, VOTER REGISTRATION, NOTICE OF
ELECTIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Section 5.1 of the Municipal Charter of the City of Sunny Isles Beach,
provides that a general election shall be held in even-numbered years in November, a run-off
election, if necessary, shall be held in December, and in conjunction with elections held by
Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections and her staff of officials
shall serve as Canvassing Board for the November 8, 2016 General Election; and
WHEREAS, if a Run-Off Election is needed on December 6, 2016, the City
Commission designates a registered voter to serve with the City Manager and the City Clerk
as the City of Sunny Isles Beach's Canvassing Board for the Run-Off Election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Calling a General Election. In accordance with the Municipal Charter of the
City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, and the general laws of the State of Florida, a General
Election is hereby called and directed to be held in the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida,
from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, for the purpose of submitting to
the electorate the names of all qualified candidates for election to the positions of City
Commissioner, Seat 01 (northern residential area), and City Commissioner, Seat 03 (southern
residential area).
Section 2. Designation of One Registered Voter to Serve on the Canvassing Board. The
City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby designates Gloria Taft, as the

registered voter to serve with the City Manager and the City Clerk as the City of Sunny Isles
Beach's Canvassing Board for the Run-Off Election, if needed, on December 6, 2016.
Section 3. Conducting the Elections. The City Clerk is authorized to utilize the services
of the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections and her staff of officials in the conduct of
said General Election. The Miami-Dade County Election Officials shall furnish the official
returns for each precinct to the City Clerk of the City of Sunny Isles Beach as soon as the
ballots from all precincts have been tabulated, and the Miami-Dade County Election's
Department Canvassing Board's certification of the duly accepted results of said election shall
be accepted by the City Commission.
Section 4. Polling Places. That said polling places in the City of Sunny Isles Beach for
said General Election shall be as established by the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of
Elections and her staff of officials. All electors shall vote at the polling places and the voting
precincts in which the OFFICIAL REGISTRATION BOOKS show that the said electors
reside. A list of the voting precincts and the polling places therein (subject to change by the
Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Election, in accordance with the laws of Florida) is
attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
Section 5. Form of Ballot. The ballot for said General Election shall be printed in
compliance with State law as prepared by the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections,
and as approved by the City Clerk as the Supervisor of Election for the City.
Section 6. Voter Registration. Registration of persons desiring to vote in said General
Election shall be in accordance with the general laws of the State of Florida governing voter
registration. Qualified persons may obtain registration forms to vote at the Office of the City
Clerk, Government Center, 18070 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, 33160,
Monday through Friday, except legal holidays, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.,
and at such other voter registration centers and during such times as may be provided by the
Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections. Each person desiring to become a registered
voter shall be responsible for properly filling out the registration form and returning it to the
Miami-Dade County Elections Office. All completed registration forms must be received by
the Miami-Dade County Elections Office and clocked in no later than Tuesday, October 11,
2016, at 5:00 p.m., for the General Election (and no later than Monday, November 7, 2016, at
5:00 p.m. for a run-off election, if necessary) in order for a person to vote in said elections. All
questions concerning voter registration should be directed to the Miami-Dade County
Elections Office, 2700 N.W. 87th Avenue, Doral, Florida, 33172; telephone: 305-499-8502.
Section 7. Notice of Elections. That not less than thirty (30) days notice of said General
Election shall be given by publication in a newspaper of general circulation in Sunny Isles
Beach, Miami-Dade County, Florida, the first publication to be in the fifth week prior to the
Election, and the second publication to be in the third week prior to said Election.
Section 8. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Resolution Calling a General Election to be Held on
Tuesday, November 8, 2016, and a Run-Off Election, if
RE: Necessary, on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, and
Designating a Registered Voter to Serve on the
Canvassing Board
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached
Resolution.
REASONS:
This Resolution provides the required details regarding the conduct of
the upcoming General Election on November 8, 2016, and if necessary,
a Run-Off Election on December 6, 2016, for the purpose of submitting
to the electorate the names of all qualified candidates for election to the
positions of City Commissioner, Seat 01 (northern residential area), and
of City Commissioner, Seat 03 (southern residential area).
The Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections and her staff of
officials are serving as the Canvassing Board for the November 8, 2016
General Election. However, if a Run-Off Election is needed on
December 6, 2016, the City Commission must designate a registered
voter to serve with the City Manager and the City Clerk as the City's
Canvassing Board. Gloria Taft has served on the City's Canvassing
Board for the Special Election held on February 17, 2015, and she is

willing and able to serve again. She has proved to be very
knowledgeable of the process, and therefore it is recommended that
Ms. Taft be designated as a member of the Canvassing Board.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Pursuant to Section 5.1 of the Municipal Charter, a general election shall
be held in even-numbered years in November, and if necessary, a run-
off election in December, in conjunction with elections held by Miami-
Dade County.
