A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2)
CHEVY TAHOE'S AND ALL ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT, MARKINGS
AND LIGHTING, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE HUNDRED
THREE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED FORTY-SIX DOLLARS ($103,146.00),
ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, one of the most valuable tools that law enforcement possess is the use of
highly trained Police dogs (K-9), and currently the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department has one
(1) K-9 Officer Team who is trained as a patrol work dog and certified in narcotics detection; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to increase the K-9 Unit by two (2) additional teams to
include a bomb/explosive detection team; and
WHEREAS, expanding the K-9 Unit by two (2) teams will require two (2) Chevy
Tahoe's which will be utilized as specialized K-9 vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department now needs to purchase two (2) Chevy Tahoe's from
Garber Chevrolet through the Florida Sheriffs Association's Contract Bid #15-23-0904, and all
associated equipment, markings and lighting will be purchased from various vendors as a result
of a competitive bid process, Florida Sheriffs Association's Contract, and/or a piggyback
contract, in a total amount not to exceed One Hundred Three Thousand One Hundred Forty-Six
Dollars ($103,146.00), attached hereto as Exhibit"A"; and
WHEREAS, staff determined that the above price is reasonable and customary for said
purchase and recommends that the City Commission approve the purchase.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Authorizing the Purchase of Police Vehicles. The City Commission hereby
authorizes the purchase of two (2) Chevy Tahoe's, and all associated equipment, markings and
emergency lighting, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Three Thousand One Hundred
Forty-Six Dollars ($103,146.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.

Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Approval to Purchase two (2) Police K9 Vehicles and
RE: associated equipment and lighting not to exceed
$103,146.00
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached
resolution authorizing the City Manager to purchase two (2) Chevy
Tahoe's and all associated equipment, markings and lighting not to
exceed $103,146.00
REASONS:
One of the most valuable tools that law enforcement possess is the use
of highly trained police dogs (K-9). Currently we have one (1) K-9 /
Officer Team who is trained as a patrol work dog and certified in
narcotics detection. Our goal is to increase the K-9 Unit by two
additional teams to include a bomb/explosive detection team.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Expanding the K-9 Unit by two teams will require these two additional
specialized K-9 vehicles. These vehicles will be purchased from
Garber Chevrolet through the Florida Sheriffs Association's Contract
Bid #15-23-0904.
