A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A
CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE ALONZO AND TRACY
MOURNING SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, IN THE AMOUNT OF
THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000.00), FOR THE SCHOOL'S
MARINE SCIENCE PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High Biscayne Bay Campus
opened its doors to 730 9th and loth grade students on August 24, 2009 from Sunny Isles Beach,
North Miami, North Miami Beach, and Golden Beach; and
WHEREAS, there are 300 students attending the School from Sunny Isles Beach and
within two or three years, Sunny Isles Beach will accommodate 50% of the school, and the City
considers it as a part of their obligation to support this magnificent School ensuring the highest
quality of education and academic excellence; and
WHEREAS, the School has requested monetary assistance from each of the
municipalities in which its students live; and
WHEREAS, Sunny Isles Beach wishes to participate by making a charitable
contribution to Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School, in the amount of Three
Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) to be used for the School's Marine Science Program; and
WHEREAS, Section 7.6 of the Sunny Isles Beach Municipal Charter provides that
charitable contributions require the affirmative votes of at least four Commissioners.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Charitable Contribution. The City Commission hereby approves a
charitable contribution to the Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School, in the amount of
Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00), to be used for the School's Marine Science Program.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Charitable Contribution to Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School for
the Marine Science Program
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution contributing
$3,000.00 to the Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School for the Marine Science
Program.
REASONS:
The Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High Biscayne Bay Campus opened its doors to 730 9th
and 10th grade students on August 24, 2009 from Sunny Isles Beach, North Miami, North Miami
Beach, and Golden Beach. There are 300 students attending the High School from Sunny Isles
Beach, and the City considers it as a part of their obligation to support this magnificent school
ensuring the highest quality of education and academic excellence.
The Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School is requesting support from each of the
municipalities in which its students live, and the City of Sunny Isles Beach wishes to participate
by making a charitable contribution in the amount of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) to be
used for the School's Marine Science Program.
Funding for this contribution is available in account number 10-511.5490.
