RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
MAKE APPLICATION FOR THE STATE OF FLORIDA HIGHWAY
BEAUTIFICATION GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT
OF EIGHTY-FIVE THOUSAND ($8~,OOO) DOLLARS WITH MATCHING
FUNDS FROM THE CITY BASED ON CONCEPTUAL PLANS PROVIDED
BY ROSENBERG DESIGN GROUP, ATTACHED AS EXHIBIT "A";
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND HIS STAFF TO ENTER INTO
A HIGHWAY LANDSCAPING MAINTENANCE MEMORANDUM OF
AGREEMENT WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Commission desire that the City of Sunny Isles Beach
beautify and improve various rights-of-way within the City; and
WHEREAS, on January 21,1999, the City Commission discussed the desire of the City to
make application for a beautification grant from the Florida Department of Transportation
("F.D.O.T.") in the amount of Eighty-Five Thousand ($85,000) Dollars; and
WHEREAS, Rosenberg Design Group, has now prepared such conceptual landscape
architectural plans for the City of Sunny Isles Beach which have been reviewed by the City
Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach wish to
authorize the City Manager and his staff to enter into a Highway Landscaping Maintenance
Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Sunny Isles Beach and the Florida Department of
Transportation;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to make formal application based on
the landscape architectural design plans of Rosenberg Design Group, and take whatever action is
necessary on behalf of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, with the Florida Department of
Transportation to secure an Eighty-Five Thousand ($85,000) Dollar highway beautification grant
with the City to supply matching funds.
Section 2. The City Commission approves the conceptual plans prepared by Rosenberg
Design Group, and authorizes the City Manager to exercise his judgment in approving modifications
to the plans as may be necessary to assist the City in securing the highway beautification grant from
F.D.O.T. for the City of Sunny Isles Beach.

Section 3. The Mayor and the City Commission of the CTty of Sunny Isles Beach hereby
authorize the City Manager and his staff to enter into a Highway Landscaping Maintenance
Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Sunny Isles Beach and the State of Florida
Department of Transportation.
Section 4.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt, by motion, the attached resolution
authorizing a grant application of $85,000 for landscaping improvements to AlA.
REASONS
Each year the State Department of Transportation makes available funds for land
improvements to State roads. The scope of the project includes the median and west
side of Collins Avenue, from south of the William Lehman Causeway to 183rd Street.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The City's landscaping architect has estimated (on the high side) the total project to
cost some $311,000. With or without the grant monies we anticipate completing the
landscaping area improvements in October 1999 (with the commencement of the new
fiscal year).
In 1998, we were awarded a $60,000 State grant to fund a portion of the $350,000 cost
for beautification of the northern most areas of the City. The "northern" project will
be completed in May 1999.
