HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 99-164RESOLUTION NO. 99-1 �Qj _ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 932.7055, F.S. (1978) TO EXPEND $18,268.35 FOR THE PURPOSES AS SET FORTH HEREIN; PROVIDING FOR AN EFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in accordance with Florida Statutes §932.70554(b) upon the request by the Chief of Police to the governing body of a municipality, liens and forfeiture funds may be expended if accompanied by written certification that the request complies with the provisions of this subsection; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Florida Statutes §932.70554(c)(3) specifically, a law enforcement agency that acquires at least $15,000 pursuant to the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act with a fiscal year must expend or donate no less than 15% of such proceeds for the support or operation of any drug treatment, drug abuse, drug prevention, crime prevention, safe neighborhood or school resource officer programs; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Expenditure of forfeiture monies. Based on the attached certification, the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to spend $ 18,268.35 from the last fiscal year of state forfeiture monies to be utilized in the following manner: A. $10,000.00 to the Crime Prevention Program for the purchase of T-shirts, hats, brochures and other awareness items for the public. B. $3,500.00 for the purchase of a display board to utilize during training meetings of the City and Police Department. C. $4,768.35 for boating equipment i.e., lights, sirens, etc. to increase visibility of our police boats. Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption. Our intake was $121,789.00 therefore our required spending is $18,268.35 for last fiscal year. I am recommending that we utilize that money in the following areas: 1. $10,000 to the Crime Prevention Program for the purchase of T-Shirts, Hats, brochures, and other awareness items for the public. 2. $3,500 for the purchase of a display board to utilize during training, meetings of the city and police department to increase crime prevention awareness for the public. 3. $4768.35 for boating equipment, i.e.: lights, siren, etc, to increase the visibility of our police boat thereby preventing crimes against persons and property via the water which surrounds our city. I certify that the above expenditures meet the criteria set forth in Florida State Statute 932.7055. In our 15% required spending we have specifically targeted the guidelines for crime prevention and feel our request meets the intent of the Statute.
