A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE
SELECTION OF MARLIN ENGINEERS, INC., BHA
BEISWENGER, HOCH & ASSOCIATES AND CIVIL WORKS, INC.,
AS GENERAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS TO THE CITY;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO RETAIN SAID FIRMS
FOR QUICK RESPONSE AND SPECIALIZED SERVICES FOR
THE DESIGN OF MISCELLANEOUS PROJECTS AND UPDATING
AND MODIFICATION OF PREVIOUSLY DESIGNED PROJECTS
PURSUANT TO SECTION 287.055, FLORIDA STATUTES (1997);
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach requires the use of professional
engineering services for the design of miscellaneous projects and the updating and
modification of previously designed projects for quick response and specialized services
within the City as authorized by Section 287.055, Florida Statutes (1997); and
WHEREAS, in an effort to fulfill the needs and meet the requirements for quick
response and specialized services, the City advertised a Request for Qualifications with a
deadline for submissions of November 8, 1999; and
WHEREAS, the City after reviewing all submissions to the Request for
Qualifications has determined the three firms most highly qualified to fulfill the needs of
the City on short notice or emergency situations and wishes to authorize the City Manager
to retain the services of the best qualified firms;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Sectionl . Selection of Firms. The City Manager is authorized to negotiate
with Marlin Engineers, Inc., BHA Beiswenger, Hoch & Associates and Civil Works, Inc.,
as general engineering consultants for the design of miscellaneous projects and updating
and modification of previously designed projects pursuant the requirements of to Section
287.055, Florida Statutes (1997).
Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon
adoption.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that City Commission adopt, by motion, the attached resolution
authorizing selection of three engineering consultants to the City.
REASONS
We have a number of projects in the stormwater utility that need attending to immediately.
By engaging and qualifying three engineering fi ins, we ).vill be able to determine which firm
would best complete the assignment, based on favorable completion dates and reviewing
lump sum bids from each of the companies.
