RESOLUTION NO. 2000-~
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA,
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TRANSFER THE NAME OF
GILBERT SAMSON MEMORIAL PARK; RE-NAMING THE PRESENT
ACCESS PARK LOCATED AT 167TH STREET "PIER PARK;" NAMING
THE OCEANFRONT PARK LOCATED AT 174TH STREET THE
GILBERT SAMSON MEMORIAL PARK; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on February 4, 1992, by resolution the Board of Miami-Dade County
Commissioner renamed the Sunny Isles Beach Park, located at Collins Avenue at 167 Street, the
Gilbert Samson Memorial Park; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to an interlocal agreement, the County relinquished all ownership
interest in Gilbert Samson Memorial Park by transferring ownership to the City and providing
the City with the authority to manage all parks within the City's limits; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to transfer the name of the Gilbert Samson
Memorial Park to the Beachfront Park, located at Collins Avenue at 174 Street;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
1. Authority To Transfer of Name and Rename Present Park. The City Commission
authorizes the City Manager or his designee to transfer the name of the Gilbert Samson
Memorial Park, located at Collins Avenue at 167 Street, to the Oceanfront Park, located at
Collins Avenue at 174 Street and renaming the present access point at 16ih as "Pier Park."
2. Naming of the Oceanfront Park. The City Commission declares that the
Beachfront Park, located at Collins at 174 Street, is officially named the Gilbert Samson
Memorial Park.
3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
