A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ENCOURAGING
THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND THE COUNTY OF MIAMI-
DADE TO EXAMINE AND CORRECT THE VARIOUS
TRAFFIC PROBLEMS THAT PLAGUE COLLINS AVENUE,
WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY AND TO
TAKE ALL REMEDIAL ACTION WITH RESPECT TO
CORRECTING THESE PROBLEMS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, a Resident was injured on Collins A venue due to his inability to cross the street
within the allotted time period provided by pedestrian crosswalk lights; and
WHEREAS, this situation has been reviewed by the City Commission, City Manager,
Resident and the Traffic Division of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the Traffic Division conducted a pedestrian crosswalk light and time study,
which revealed that the pedestrian crosswalk lights do not provide pedestrians sufficient time to
cross the street; and
WHEREAS, the members of the City Commission, City Manager and Resident have met
with officials from the Florida Department of Transportation and Miami Dade County Public Works
Division, which maintains the signals on Collins A venue, to discuss possible improvements to the
situation.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach encourages the State of
Florida and County of Miami-Dade to examine and correct the various traffic problems that plague
Collins Avenue within the corporate limits of the City of Sunny Isles Beach including, but not
limited to, problems with crosswalk times, location of crosswalks, and speed limit signage and
markings throughout the City, and to take all remedial action with respect to correcting these
problems.
Section 2.
This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
