HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2001-320 RESOLUTION NO. 2001- 3 '2.0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ENDORSING THE CONCEPT OF THE "AMBER ALERT" PROGRAM WHICH REQUIRES TIMELY PUBLIC NOTICE OF CHILD ABDUCTIONS AND ENCOURAGING THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND ALL ITS INCORPORATED MUNICIPALITIES TO REVIEW THE PROGRAM AND OTHER SIMILAR PROGRAMS FOR POTENTIAL IMPLEMENTATION; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is dedicated to the protection of the children of the community; and, WHEREAS, the abduction of children is a problem of national and local concern; and, WHEREAS, many jurisdictions are implementing programs such as the "Amber Alert" Program, to provide widespread and timely public notice that the abduction of a child has taken place, as an effective tool to assist in the recovery of the child before serious harm occurs, that could be vital tools to help protect children; and, WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, Inc., pursuant to Resolution No. 2001-2, adopted January 4,2001, endorsed the "Amber Alert" Program and encouraged the law enforcement agencies of Miami-Dade County and all its incorporated municipalities to review the Program and other similar programs for potential implementation. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The concept of the "Amber Alert" Program which requires timely public notice of child abductions is endorsed and the law enforcement agencies of Miami-Dade County and all its incorporated municipalities are encouraged to review the program and other similar programs for potential implementation. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Miami- Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas, all members of the Board of County Commissioners of Miami-Dade County, Florida, Miami-Dade County Manager Steve Shiver, the Mayors of each of the municipalities of Miami-Dade County, and the Miami-Dade County League of Cities, Inc.
