RESOLUTION NO. 2001-3k4
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, NAMING THE PASSIVE PARK
LOCATED AT NORTH BAY ROAD AND 17STH DRIVE, AS "SENATOR
GWEN MARGOLIS PARK"; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on August 13, 1998, Resolution No. 98-78 was adopted authorizing the
City of Sunny Isles Beach to purchase vacant property located at North Bay Road and 178th
Drive for a park for its residents; and
WHEREAS, Gwen Margolis has served the residents of South Florida in numerous
public positions beginning in 1974 when elected to the Florida House of Representatives and
subsequently re-elected for three terms; in 1980 she served as State Senator and was appointed
Chair of the Finance, Tax and Claims Committee and subsequently the Appropriations
Committee where she assisted in leading Florida out of recessions and budgetary crises; in 1990,
she was sworn in as President of the Florida State Senate; she was elected to the District 4 seat of
the Miami-Dade County Commission in 1994 and re-elected to a second term in 1998, and
currently serves as Chairperson of the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, Senator Gwen Margolis was instrumental in facilitating the incorporation
efforts of the residents of Sunny Isles Beach and has continued to provide valuable financial
support for our City; and
WHEREAS, Mayor David Samson has requested that the passive park located at North
Bay Road and 178th Drive be named "Senator Gwen Margolis Park."
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Naming of the Passive Park. The City Commission declares that the
passive park, located at North Bay Road and 178th Drive, is officially named "Senator Gwen
Margolis Park."
Section 2.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall becom e ective upon adoption.
