Home My WebLink AboutReso 2002-445 -1 RESOLUTION NO. 2002- ~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING PAYMENT OF SERVICES TO LUKES' LANDSCAPING, INC. ("LUKES'''), IN THE AMOUNT OF TWENTY -FIVE THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED FIVE DOLLARS ($25,605.00), ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A", IN ACCORDANCE WITH RESOLUTIONS NO. 2001-377 AND NO. 2001-390, FOR THE PURCHASE AND INST ALLA TION OF TREES FOR LANDSCAPING THE POCKET PARK IN GOLDEN SHORES AND THE SEASONAL CHANGE OF FLOWERS ALONG 174TH STREET; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is desirous of completing the landscaping project at the Pocket Park in Golden Shores; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to maintain the beauty of the medians along the length of 174th Street where the plants are seasonal and must be replaced with plants able to withstand the summer heat; and WHEREAS, the City adopted Resolution No. 2001-377 authorizing an agreement with Lukes' Landscaping, Inc., for interim landscaping maintenance and Resolution No. 2001-390 awarding Lukes' a six-year agreement to landscape and maintain the parks, medians and rights- of-way; and WHEREAS, Lukes' Landscaping, Inc., are under contract with the City and will complete the landscaping project at the Pocket Park at a cost of $3,625.00, and replace the seasonal plants along 174th Street at a cost of $21,980.00, totaling $25,605.00, consistent with the unit prices established in Lukes' contract with the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Payment of Services. Payment of services to Lukes' Landscaping, Inc., in accordance with Resolutions No. 2001-377 and No. 2001-390, for purchase and installation of trees in the Pocket Park in Golden Shores and seasonal change of flowers along 174th Street median, in an amount of $25,605.00, attached hereto as Exhibit "A", be and the same, is hereby approved. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution. Dannheisser, City Attorney Richard Brown - Morilla, City Clerk RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve Twenty-Five Thousand, Six Hundred Five dollars ($25,605.00) to complete the landscaping project at our Pocket Park and the seasonal change of flowers along 174`h Street. REASONS: With respect to the Pocket Park, it was recently necessary to remove all the Australian pine trees because of the danger from falling limbs. Replacement trees were planted but are many years from creating a pleasant park atmosphere. Proper landscaping will provide a more three- dimensional look conducive to use by our residents. The medians along the length of 174th Street have been beautiful since "Luke's" first landscaped them. However, the plants are seasonal and are nearing the end of their usefulness and must be replaced with plants able to withstand the summer heat. The plants chosen are "Pentas" and "Caladium ". ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: All plant and material costs listed in the attachments are consistent with "unit prices" established in Lukes' Landscaping contract with the City. S' cly, U)ies ere .
