HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2002-450 RESOLUTION NO. 2002- .::\50 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, PROVIDING CONCEPTUAL APPROVAL OF A PROGRAM FOR THE CITY COMMISSION TO CONSIDER ACCEPTING FUTURE DONATIONS OF SPECIFIC ARCHITECTURAL ARTIFACTS FOR PUBLIC DISPLAY; PROVIDING THAT THE CITY COMMISSION SHALL RECOMMEND PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES FOR HA VING A COMMITTEE TO REVIEW AND RECOMMEND ACCEPTANCE OF ANY SPECIFIC ARCHITECTURAL ARTIFACTS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, several older buildings and architectural artifacts are being removed or demolished in the City; and WHEREAS, some developers have offered to donate architectural artifacts to the City, on the condition that the City would pay any associated costs; and WHEREAS, the Civic, Cultural and Beautification Trust, a privately held not-for-profit corporation that was formed in Sunny Isles Beach, has offered to assume the cost of removal, storage, restoration and or repair of such artifacts as the City Commission may specifically deem appropriate for public display within the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS, the Civic, Cultural and Beautification Trust, has requested clarification from the City regarding its interest in accepting their offer to donate such artifacts; and WHEREAS, the City Commissions believes there is a value in retaining and displaying select archival and architectural artifacts that might serve as reminders of this community's past for the future enjoyment of residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach approves the concept of saving selected artifacts of architectural interest for future public display; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 1. Approval In Concept: The City Commission hereby approves in concept, the preserving of selected artifacts of architectural interest for future public display, provided that the Civic, Cultural and Beautification Trust assumes the cost of removal, storage, restoration and/or repair, relocation of such artifacts, as the City Commission may specifically deem appropriate for public display within the City of Sunny Isles Beach, and, further, provides them at no cost to the City. 1 R2002- Approval in Concept of Receiving Architectural Artifacts 2. Procedural Guidelines For A Committee To Review And Recommend Acceptance Of Anv Specific Architectural Artifacts: The City Commission shall provide direction to staff regarding the procedural guidelines for obtaining a committee's recommendations that shall then be presented for City Commission approval regarding the specific identification, removal, storage, restoration and/or repair, display site selection and relocation of such architectural artifacts as the City Commission may specifically deem appropriate for public display within the City of Sunny Isles Beach. 3.
