A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
CO-DESIGNA TION FOR ATLANTIC A VENUNE WITHIN
THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, TO "ATLANTIC
A VENUE/A TLANTIC ISLES"; FURTHER REQUESTING
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO INSTALL TWO (2)
OVERHEAD TRAFFIC SIGNS DEPICTING THIS DUAL
DESIGNATION ON THE NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND
TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT COLLINS AVENUE AND
ATLANTIC AVENUE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXPEND FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF
TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00) FOR THE COST OF
INSTALLATION OF SAID SIGNS AND TO DO ALL
OTHER THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE
INTENT OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, street signs labeling Atlantic A venue with the dual designation of Atlantic
A venue/Atlantic Isles were prominently displayed on the traffic lights located at Collins A venue
and Atlantic A venue for an extended period of time; and
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County removed that signage as the plat for that area solely
names the street "Atlantic Avenue;" and
WHEREAS, area residents have grown accustomed to that dual designation, utilizing it
in speech and written correspondence; and
WHEREAS, staff contacted Miami-Dade County in reference to having those signs
reinstalled and was advised that a City resolution requesting co-designation and a payment of
Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) to cover the cost of installation were required, in order to
comply with our request;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Street Renaming. The City of Sunny Isles Beach formally approves
and requests the approval of Miami-Dade County to co-designate Atlantic Avenue within the
City of Sunny Isles Beach as "Atlantic Avenue/Atlantic Isles."
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
expend funds in the amount of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) to cover the cost of installation
of two (2) traffic light street signs and to do all other things necessary to effectuate the intent of
this resolution.

~ Section} Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of July, 2002.
