RE: TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM FUNDING REQUEST
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution authorizing the City
Manager to apply for, receive, and expend funding from the Florida Department of
Transportation's Transportation Enhancement Program.
REASONS
The City has begun efforts to revitalize the Sunny Isles Boulevard/SR 826 area, the main
entrance corridor to the city. These efforts will include landscaping enhancements and
pedestrian and vehicular traffic calming measures. As these projects are costly, the City is
seeking grant funding from available sources.
The Florida Department of Transportation has grant funding available through its Transportation
Enhancement Program. These grants require a 50/50 match by the City. The City is requesting
One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) in grant funding, with a 50% match by the City, for a total
of Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000.00).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is federal funding being sought for the reconstruction of Sunny Isles Boulevard/SR826 east
bound. It will greatly improve the main entrance to the City and spark major private
redevelopment of the corridor, forming the basis of the"Town Center"concept

RE: SUNNY ISLES BOULEVARD/SR 826 TRAFFIC CALMING PROJECT
Dear Committee Members:
This letter is to confirm our support for the proposed Sunny Isles Boulevard/SR 826
Traffic Calming Project. The Enhancement funding will greatly influence the main
entrance to the City of Sunny Isles Beach and provide for pedestrian safety for our
citizens.
Traffic calming is especially important for this particular area, as it has been
designated as part of the "Town Center" of our city and approved in our
Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations. This area is clearly in
need of redevelopment and renewal. This project will lead to more pedestrian
activity and safer vehicular travel in our city.
Your assistance and support of this project would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
e
