A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF
SPONSORSHIP FOR TWO (2) FULL TIME SUMMER CAMP
PARTICIPANTS FOR THEIR SESSION CAMP FEES FOR SUMMER
CAMP 2003, SUMMER OLYMPICS, IN THE AMOUNT OF ONE
THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($1,500.00) FROM THE
SUNFLOWER SOCIETY; PROVIDING THE CITY MANAGER THE
AUTHORITY TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE
THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Sunflower Society is a non-profit organization that wishes to donate the
amount of One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) to provide financial assistance to
families who cannot afford the City summer program on their own; and
WHEREAS, the City has received requests for financial assistance from parents of
campers who would like to attend the summer program; and
WHEREAS, the City will evaluate candidates for financial assistance and make
recommendations to the Sunflower Society as to the recipients of the sponsorships; and
WHEREAS, the Sunflower Society will make the final decision regarding recipients of
the sponsorships; and
WHEREAS, the recipient must be a full time resident of Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, the sponsorship is for session fees only and the recipient is responsible for
all other camp fees including, but not limited to, registration fee, and before care and after care
fees.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1, Acceptance of Donation. The City Commission hereby accepts a donation to the
Summer Camp Fund, in the amount of One Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00), from
the Sunflower Society for the express purpose of financing Two (2) full-time summer program
participants in the amount of Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($750,00) each.
Section 2, Authorization of City Manager, The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this resolution,
Section 3,
Effective Date, This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

RE: ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION FROM SUNFLOWER SOCIETY
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution approving the
acceptance of a donation from Sunflower Society for the purpose of sponsoring two (2) full-time
Summer Day Camp participants.
REASONS
The City of Sunny Isles Beach Summer Day Camp is a fee for service program. Some residents
have inquired about the possibility of reduced rates or scholarship opportunities. The Sunflower
Society is a non-profit organization that wishes to provide financial assistance to families that
would otherwise not be able to attend the City's day camp program due to financial constraints.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Sunflower Society is committed to making a donation in the amount of One Thousand Five
Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00), which will sponsor two (2) full time summer day camp
participants. Sunflower Society will the make the final determination as to the recipients of the
donation.
