A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RESULTS OF
THE GENERAL ELECTION WHICH WAS HELD ON TUESDAY,
SEPTEMBER 9, 2003 AND DECLARING LEWIS THALER TO BE
ELECTED; DECLARING DANNY IGLESIAS AS COMMISSIONER
WHO WAS AUTOMATICALLY ELECTED, HAVING NO
OPPONENTS; DISCHARGING THE CANVASSING BOARD FOR
SAID GENERAL ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach held a General Election on Tuesday, September 9,
2003; and . ~.
WHEREAS, City Resolution No. 2003-566, designated Manny Pine to be the registered voter,
and Emergency Ordinance No. 2003-176 designated City Manager Christopher J. Russo to serve on
the Canvassing Board with Jane A. Hines, Chairperson and Acting City Clerk, for the General
Election; and
WHEREAS, the Canvassing Board met on September 9, 2003, and proceeded to publicly
canvass the votes cast for the candidates in the General Election and certified the General Election
results.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Acceptance of Results of General Election. The City Commission of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach hereby accepts the results of the General Election held on September 9,2003, as
follows:
For RESIDENTIAL AREA COMMISSIONER -- SEAT 1, the whole numbers of
votes cast was 1,558, of which number
LILA KAUFFMAN received 542 votes
LEWIS THALER received 1,005 votes
Section 2. Discharge of the Canvassing Board. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles
Beach hereby discharges the Canvassing Board being Manny Pine, Member; Christopher J. Russo,
City Manager, Member; and Jane A. Hines, Chairperson and Acting City Clerk, as the City of Sunny
Isles Beach's Canvassing Board for the September 9,2003, General Election.
Section 3. Installation of New Officers. The City Clerk will administer the oath to Danny
Iglesias as City Commissioner, and Lewis Thaler as City Commissioner, at a Special City
Commission Meeting, and the new officers will be installed and shall enter upon the discharge of

their duties, effective thirty (30) days after General Election, October 9,2003.
Section 4.
Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Re: Resolution Accepting Results of the General Election Held on September 9,2003,
and Discharging the Canvassing Board for the General Election
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting the results
of the General Election held on September 9, 2003, accepting Danny Iglesias as City
Commissioner Seat 03 as a result of his running unopposed, and discharge of the Canvassing
Board for the General Election.
REASONS:
A General Election was held on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, for City Commissioner Seat 01
(Northern Residential Area). This Resolution accepts the results of the General Election
declaring Lewis Thaler elected as City Commissioner Seat 01, and Danny Iglesias as City
Commissioner Seat 03 (Southern Residential Area), who was automatically elected, having no
opponents. This Resolution also discharges the Canvassing Board for the General Election, with
many thanks to Emanuel Pine who served on the Board with the City Manager and the Acting
City Clerk.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A Special City Commission Meeting will be scheduled to administer the oath to Danny Iglesias
and Lewis Thaler as City Commissioners, and the new officers will be installed and shall enter
upon the discharge of their duties, effective 30 days after the General Election,October 9,2003.
