A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE, AND EXPEND FUNDS
FROM A BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, LOCAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT OF
FOURTEEN THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED AND FIVE DOLLARS
($14,205.00), WITH THE CITY PROVIDING MATCHING FUNDS IN
AN AMOUNT OF ONE THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED SEVENTY-
EIGHT DOLLARS ($1,578.00), REPRESENTING THE REQUIRED
10% MATCH, FOR THE PURCHASE OF COMPUTER HARDWARE;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE,
AND EXPEND FUNDS, AS APPROPRIATE, WITHOUT FURTHER
APPROVAL OF THIS COMMISSION; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has an active and growing policing unit that
is seeking to protect the health, safety and welfare of its residents; and
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Local Law Enforcement Block Grant
Program, has a grant in the amount of $14,205.00 available along with matching City funds of
$1,578.00, for the purchase of computer hardware, and has invited the City to apyly for the
funding; and
WHEREAS, using funds provided from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Local Law
Enforcement Block Grant Program, for the purchase of computer hardware, would assist our
Police Department in the forward movement in establishing a reliable state-of-the-art computer
system.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Authority to Apply For. Receive. and Expend Funds from a Grant. The City
Manager is hereby authorized to apply for, receive and expend funds from the Bureau of Justice
Assistance, Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, in the Amount of Fourteen
Thousand, Two Hundred and Five Dollars ($14,205.00), with matching funds from the City in an
amount of One Thousand, Five Hundred Seventy-Eight Dollars ($1,578.00), for the purchase of
computer hardware.
Section 2.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Subject: Authorization to Apply For, Receive and Expend Grant Money from
the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Local Law Enforcement Block
Grant Program for Purchase of Computer Hardware.
Recommendation:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve a Resolution authorizing the
City manager to apply for, receive, and expend monies from the Bureau of Justice
Assistance, Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program in the amount of
$14.205.00 (90%), Grant Award and $1.578.00 00%). in city matching funds;
further authorizing the City Manager to do all things necessary; to provide matching
funds as may be required; providing for an effective date.
Reason:
Using the funds provided from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Local Law
Enforcement Block Grant, the City of Sunny Isles Beach Police Department would
purchase computer hardware to assist in the forward movement in establishing a
reliable state-of-the-art computer system.
Additional Information:
The police department is in the planning stages of developing and building a state-
of-the-art computer system that will enable us to computerize our dispatching,
records system and eventually mobile field reporting. These funds will purchase
computer hardware to assist in building our foundation (ie; servers, racks, etc.)
