A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING
THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
COMPREHENSIVE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1984 TO
EXPEND $50,000.00 FROM THE FEDERAL FORFEITURE
FUND FOR THE PURPOSES AS SET FORTH HEREIN;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the city and
its police department are authorized to expend forfeiture funds from the established federal forfeiture
account, for the approved programs or purchases intended to enhance law enforcement purposes.
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, upon the
request of the Chief of Police to the governing body of a municipality, federally forfeited funds may
be expended if accompanied by written certification that the request complies with the provisions of
the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has submitted a request for the expenditure of $50,000.00 in
federally forfeited funds in compliance with the aforementioned;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Expenditure of federally forfeited monies. Based on the attached certification, the
Chief of Police is hereby authorized to spend $ 50,000.00 from the established federal forfeiture
account for the costs associated with the building of a secure and stable law enforcement computer
network and to prepare for the purchase of an enhanced law enforcement software package that will
enable the law enforcement officers to access and securely share criminal intelligence and
administrative data among law enforcement agencies, officers and employees.
Section 2.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.

It is .recommended that the City Conunission approve the expenditure ofpWtial
federal forfeiture funds" previously awarded to the Police Department as the results
of i~vestigative participation in forfeitQre and ",seizure cases. Asper the.
Comprehensive Crime Control Actof1984t these funds may be spent forpurchases '
of police equipment aQ.d other la\V eIlfQrcementactivities. Itis requested that we be
permitted to utilize $50,000.00 of said funds on deposit for such purpose. '

These funds will be used to build a secure and stable law enforcement computer
network and to prepare for the purchase of anenhanc~d law enforceIIlent software
package that will enable the law enforcement officers to access, and "'securely share

Additional Information:
Since the inception of this police, departmentt we have, worked without a, true
computer netWork. This has caused excessive labor and unnecessary risk of data
loss and control. By establishing 'a true and secure'network platformt we will be
prepared to purchaseaild install a law enforcement' software package that will
enhance the effectiveness of the communications section, patrol officers,
investigators, records section and countless other areas.
