REASONS NIMS promotes interoperability and compatibility amongst federal, state and local agencies by establishing a core set of shared concepts, principles, terminology, and technologies. Because agencies at all levels share this common ground, they are able to cooperate with one another to a greater degree and respond more effectively to emergency situations. Presidential Directive—5 (HSPD-5) requires that state, territorial, tribal, and local level jurisdictions adopt NIMS. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION City staff and members of the Commission received an introduction to NIMS principles during six training sessions held during the week of August 22, 2005. Agenda Item Date
