A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING
THE PURCHASE OF VERTEX UHF REPEATER
PACKAGE, VERTEX UHF PORT ABLE RADIOS WITH
CHARGERS, AND VERTEX UHF BASE PACKAGE FROM
COMTECH GLOBAL SOLUTIONS, INC., IN AN AMOUNT
OF TWENTY-FOUR THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($24,500.00), ATTACHED HERETO AS
EXHIBIT "A"; AUTHORIZING THE INTERIM CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is desirous of replacing and upgrading the
existing radio communications for the benefit and welfare of its citizens, visitors, and employees;
and
WHEREAS, Comtech Global Solutions, Inc. has provided a proposal in the amount of
Twenty-Four Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($24,500.00); and
WHEREAS, this radio equipment will greatly enhance the effectiveness of the
communication between employees out in the field with each other and those inside the office, as
well as an emergency channel to directly connect with the Police Department Dispatch Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Purchase. The City Commission hereby approves the purchase
agreement from Comtech Global Solutions, Inc. for radio communications equipment, in the
amount of$24,500.00 and attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
Section 2. Authority of City Mana~er. The Interim City Manager is hereby authorized to do
all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 17th day of November 2005.

Re: Purchase of Radio Communication Equipment from Comtech Global Solutions Inc.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution approving the
purchase of radio communication equipment from Comtech Global Solutions, Inc.
REASONS
The City's radio communications are currently limited to one channel that works throughout the
entire city. With additional departments in need of radio communication, that channel is being
overused by the various departments (Public Works, Building, Code Enforcement and Licensing,
and Cultural & Human Services).
Comtech Global Solutions, Inc. has a provided a proposal, in the amount of Twenty-Four
Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($24,500.00), for the purchase of four (4) UHF repeaters, sixty-
four(64) handheld radios with chargers, and five (5) base units. This system will allow for all of
the departments to have their own channel as well as one emergency channel that the Police
Dispatch Office will monitor. All departments can access this channel in the event of an
emergency.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The building growth of the City has limited the radio communication abilities. Without the
additional repeaters, radios must function point to point which only works when no obstructions
are between the users. Cell phones, such as Nextel, were considered as an alternative but were
decidedly more expensive and less reliable than the handheld radios.
These radios are being purchased using government pricing.
