A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
APPL Y FOR AND ACCEPT A MIAMI-DADE COUNTY METROPOLITAN
PLANNING ORGANIZATION (MPO) GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY,
IN AN AMOUNT OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS ($1,000,000.00), IN ORDER
TO CONSTRUCT A PEDESTRIANIBICYCLE GREENWAY CONNECTOR
BRIDGE BETWEEN 172ND STREET AND 174TH STREET; AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTION NECESSARY
WITH RESPECT TO THE OBTAINING AND DISTRIBUTION OF GRANT
MONIES, AS APPROPRIATE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County's Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) provides
grants to governmental entities for transportation studies through the Unified Planning Work
Program; and
WHEREAS, the City's Comprehensive Plan sets forth specific transportation goals for the
City to improve the safety and efficiency of roadway systems through transportation system
management techniques; and
WHEREAS, the City adopted Resolution No. 2003-502 applying for a MPO Grant for a
transportation study for 172nd Street - 1741h Street in order to determine the feasibility and need for a
pedestrian/bicycle bridge; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to construct a pedestrian/bicycle green way connector bridge
between 172nd Street and 1 74th Street; and
WHEREAS, obtainment ofa MPO grant in the amount of$1 Million would assist the City
in offsetting the cost of the bridge of which is $ 1.5 Million, and the City would fund the remainder
$500,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is desirous of applying for grant money in the
amount of $1 ,000,000.00, for the bridge.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. Authority to Apply For, Accept and Expend Grant Funds. The City Manager is
authorized to apply for, accept and expend funds from an MPO grant, in an amount of
$1,000,000.00, for a pedestrian/bicycle greenway connector bridge between 172nd Street and 1741h
Street.
Section 2. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is authorized to take any and
all action necessary with respect to the obtaining and distribution of grant monies, as appropriate.

Section 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Miami-Dade County MPO Grant - $1 Million Dollars
At its regular meeting of February 16, 2006, the City Commission adopted Resolution No.
2006-887, which authorized staff to apply for, receive, and expend grant monies from the above
for pedestrian/bicycle bridge project. Attached is a certified copy of the approving resolution to
assist you in processing this item.
