City Clerk MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Commission VIA: A. John Szerlag, City NIanager ,'J Clayton L. Parker, Building Official/Administrator {)f~ FROM: DATE: May 18, 2006 RE: Request for Extension of Time to Waive Building Permit Fees RECOMMENDATION: It is requested that the City Commission adopt the Resolution. REASONS: In the wake of Hurricane Wilma the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2005-850 which waived the City Building Permit fees for property owners for any Hurricane related repairs for a six-month period, which ended on April 26, 2006. However, as Hurricane Wilma caused a vast amount of destruction and debris statewide, many residents have been unable to get their repairs done during the amnesty time period. As such, staff is requesting the waiver period being extended through July 26, 2006. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The intent of Resolution No. 2005-850 was to provide relief to Hurricane Wilma victims for the damages incurred by the storm. However, we have encountered several code issues with regards to replacement of broken glass. This has caused delays by contractors and engineers to give Condominium Associations and residents their assessment reports for repairs. Staff feels that with the latest interpretation from the Board of Rules and Appeals, a 90-day extension of time would be sufficient to allow the remaining permits to be issued.
