A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE CITY OF HOPE, IN THE AMOUNT OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000.00), FOR THE CITY OF HOPE 2007 SPIRIT OF LIFE AWARD DINNER; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has a tradition of participating and assisting various social services programs of interest and benefit to its residents and fellow man; and WHEREAS, the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute is a non-profit organization, which is dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, guided by a compassionate, patient-centered philosophy and supported by a national foundation of humanitarian philanthropy; and WHEREAS, the research conducted at City of Hope is shared with medical centers throughout the world as well as our own communities; and WHEREAS, the City of Hope is holding their annual "Spirit of Life" event to be held on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the Trump International Sonesta Beach Resort, 18101 Collins Avenue; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to demonstrate its support by making a charitable contribution to the City of Hope, in an amount ofTen Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00); and WHEREAS, this charitable contribution entitles the City to two (2) gold page ads in the City of Hope Journal and two (2) VIP tables at the 2007 Spirit of Life Award Dinner. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Authorization of Charitable Contribution. The City Commission hereby authorizes a charitable contribution to the City of Hope, in the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00). Section 2, Authorization of Citv Manager. At their annual Spirit of Life event on Thursday, February 8, 2007, the City of Hope is honoring Mayor Norman S. Edelcup with the 2006 Humanitarian Award for his outstanding achievements to the City of Sunny Isles Beach, and his steadfast support and generosity to the City of Hope and other community organizations. Funding for this donation will be covered with funds from the police forfeiture fund, and in a future budget transfer from contingency of the general fund. This contribution entitles the City to two gold page ads in the City of Hope Journal and two VIP tables (20 people) at the 2007 Spirit of Life A ward Dinner.
