A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA,
AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF FIFTY-THREE (53)
DELL LAPTOP COMPUTERS, VEHICLE RACKS AND
ASSOCIATED SOFTWARE FOR THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT, IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED
ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS
($135,000.00), ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A";
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL
THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF
THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department ("Department") has been working
hard to upgrade and automate its processes and equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department is now starting Phase III (Mobile
Data) of its implementation of a Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, and Mobile
Data System; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to purchase fifty-three (53) laptop computers with onsite
hardware warranties, vehicle computer racks and associated software for each Police Officer's
vehicle; and
WHEREAS, this phase of the overall implementation will allow the Officers to receive
calls for service and communicate directly with the Sunny Isles Beach Communications Center
enabling the Police Officers to conduct criminal and driver's license checks as well as car-to-car
messaging directly from their Police vehicles; and
WHEREAS, Staff has requested a quote from Dell, a leader in the computer industry, for
said computers with onsite hardware warranties, vehicle computer racks and associated software;
and
WHEREAS, Dell has provided a quote under the State of Florida IT Hardware Contract
#250-000-03-1 for the purchase of 53 computers with onsite hardware warranties, vehicle
computer racks, and from Software House, [nc, under the Florida Contract #255-001-0[-[ for the
purchase of associated software, in a total amount not to exceed One Hundred Thirty-Five
Thousand Dollars ($135,000,00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I.
Authorization of Purchase, The City Commission hereby authorizes the purchase

of 53 Dell computers with onsite hardware warranties, vehicle computer racks and from Software
House, Inc. associated software for the Police Department, under State of Florida IT Hardware
Contracts #250-000-03-1 and #255-001-01-1, in a total amount not to exceed One Hundred
Thirty-Five Thousand Dollars ($135,000,00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A", be, and the same, is
hereby approved.
Section 2. Authorization of Citv Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessmy to effectuate this Resolution,
Section 3.
Effective Date, This Resolution will becomc effective upon adoption,

Approval to Purchase Fifty-Three (53) Dell Laptop Computers, Vehicle
Racks and associated software at a cost not to exceed $135,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City
Manager to purchase fifty-three (53) Dell Laptop Computers with onsite hardware warranties,
vehicle computer racks and the associated software at a cost not to exceed $135,000.00.
REASONS:
As the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department starts phase III (Mobile Data) of its implementation of
a Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, and Mobile Data System, there is a need to
purchase this required hardware (laptops & vehicle racks) and associated software for each officers
vehicle. This phase of the overall implementation will allow the officers to receive calls for service
and communicate directly with the Sunny Isles Beach Communications Center without the delays of
the ever busy Miami-Dade County Radio System. This phase will also enable the police officers to
conduct criminal and driver's license checks as well as car-to-car messaging directly ftom their police
vehicles. Staff has requested and received quotes from both Dell Computers under the State of
Florida IT Hardware Contract # 250-000-03-1 for the purchase of the requested laptops, and ftom
Software House Inc. under the State of Florida Contract #255-001-01-1 for the purchase of
associated software. The Sunny Isles Beach Fleet Services Unit will also have power inverters and
computer vehicle racks installed in each marked police vehicle.
