BROAD - BAY HARBOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL; AUTHORIZING THE CITV MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, since 1998, the Town of Surfs ide, Village ofBal Harbour and Town of Bay Harbor Islands created the Surf-Bal-Bay after school program at Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary to providc said children with fun, aftcr school activities; and WHEREAS, thc school administration has requested $15,000.00 per year from each of the municipalitics that feed into the school; and WHEREAS, with all the redevelopment occurring in Sunny Isles Beach and with the demographics changing, this City is now sending more and more students to Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary; and WHEREAS, the Principal of Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School has requested the City's assistance in continued operation of the program by contributing $5,000.00 rathcr than the usual contribution of $15,000.00 because the program is being scaled down due to construction. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section I. Authorization of Citv Manager. The City Commission hcreby authorizes the City Manager to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution, which includes contributing Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to the after school program at Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. Section 2. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached' Resolution contributing $5,000.00 to the Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School after school program. REASONS: In 1998, the Town of Surfside, Village of Bal Harbour and Town of Bay Harbor Islands created the Surf-Bal-Bay after school program at Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School. At that time the municipalities committed to making an annual donation to subsidize this program. Upon incorporation, the City of Sunny Isles Beach joined that partnership as many of our elementary students attend that school. The school has sent the customary letter requesting our donation, which has been set at $5,000.00 for each municipality. Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School are scaling down their program due to construction and therefore, they are only requiring $5,000.00 rather than the full donation of$15,000.00 as previously given.
