RESOLUTION NO. 2007- {O~g
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A CONTRIBUTION OF
THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($300.00) TO THE RUTH K. BROAD -
BAY HARBOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARENTS AND TEACHERS
ASSOCIATION (PTA) FOR "TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK"
EVENTS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS
NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Parents and Tcachcrs Association (PTA) at Ruth K. Broad - Bay
Harbor Elementary School is sponsoring "Teacher Appreciation Week" during the week of May
7 - 11,2007, for their teachcrs hard work and dedication throughout the school year; and
WHEREAS, the weeklong event will include brcakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea brcaks,
including a meditation session, a workout, giveaways, and other pampering activitics; and
WHEREAS, thc Appreciation Week Committee from the Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor
Elemcntary School PT A is requcsting support from surrounding municipalities and has requested
the City's assistance in supporting the "Teacher Appreciation Week" by contributing Three
Hundred Dollars ($300.00).
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Authorization of Citv Manager. The City Commission hereby authorizes the City
Manager to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution, which includes
contributing Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) to the Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary
PTA.
Section 2.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall bccome effectivc upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 191h day of April 2007.

Dear Mayor Edelcup,
Schools everywhere will be celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week
during the week of May 7 - 11,2007. Parents and children will take time to
thank their teachers for their dedication in providing an education and so
much more for our students.
At Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Elementary, we are very proud and
fond of our teachers and will therefore be participating in Teacher
Appreciation Week. Some special activities and treats are planned for our
educators. We are inviting the local municipalities from where the children
reside to also participate in this special week.
As many of the children from Sunny Isles Beach attend Bay Harbor
Elementary, it would be wonderful if the City of Sunny Isles Beach would
join our efforts, as are the Towns of Bay Harbor and Surfside (and possibly
Bal Harbor) (as of this writing). If you would like to sponsor a breakfast or
lunch at the school, we would welcome that. The cost for this type of event
would be between $250 - $300. We could also entertain any other method
of participation that you would prefer.
I am also contacting City Manager John Szerlag regarding this event.

working with you.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution contributing $300.00
to the Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School PT A.
REASONS:
Many City of Sunny Isles Beach elementary students attend the Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor
Elementary School. The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) at Ruth K. Broad - Bay
Harbor Elementary School is sponsoring "Teacher Appreciation Week" during the week of May
7 - 11, 2007, for their teachers hard work and dedication throughout the school year. The
weeklong event will include many events, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea breaks, a
meditation session, a workout, giveaways, and other pampering activities.
The Appreciation Week Committee from the Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School

Charitable Donation to Ruth K. BroadlBay Harbor Eleinentary PT A
At its regular meeting of April 19, 2007, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2007-
1088, which authorized a $300 charitable contribution to the above. Attached is a copy of the
approving resolution to assist you in processing this item.
