WHEREAS, the City Commission has expressed a desire to replace the current bus shelters in the City with shelters that are more conducive to the City's Streetscape Plan; and WHEREAS, at a previous City Commission meeting staff presented several model bus shelters from which the City Commission could choose; and WHEREAS, the City Commission selected Model #13NADL-VICGL as the preferred bus shelter and the Four-Foot Perforated Metal Benches with privacy bar and no back; and WHEREAS, Tolar Manufacturing Company, Inc. ("Tolar") is the sole source vendor of bus shelter Model #l3NADL-VICGL; and WHEREAS, Tolar has provided a quote for the purchase of twelve (12) bus shelters and internal lights, in a total amount not to exceed Eighty-Five Thousand Dollars ($85,000.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A"; and, WHEREAS, the quote from Tolar utilizes the same pricing, terms, and conditions as City of Coral Springs Agreement #05-B-136M; and WHEREAS, the City's procurement codes provides that purchases made under state, county or other governmental contracts, or competitive bids with other governmental agencies are exempt from the City's competitive bidding procedures; and WHEREAS, the City desires to purchase said bus shelters and internal lights from Tolar. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section I. Authorization of Purchase. The City Commission hereby authorizes the purchase of twelve (12) bus shelters and internal lights from Tolar Manufacturing Company, Inc., in a total amount not to exceed Eighty-Five Thousand Dollars ($85,000.00), as quoted and attached hereto as Exhibit "A", pursuant to City of Coral Springs Agreement # 05-B-l36M. R2007- Bus Shelter Purchase From Tolar.Doc Page I of2 Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. John Szerlag, City Manager FROM: DATE: Jorge Vera, Assistant City Manager Rick Conner, Director of Public Works!(l" May 17, 2007 RE: New Bus Shelter Installations RECOMMENDATION: We recommend authorizing the City Manager to purchase an additional twelve Bus Shelters and the internal Lights. These would be the same make and model as the existing larger units from Tolar, the sole source manufacturer. This is the supplier that provided the units currently being installed. The total price is not to exceed $85,000.00. We also recommend authorizing the additional locations for these additional units to be installed. We have attached a map showing where units have already been installed (yellow for small, red for large), where they are committed to be installed but have not yet (blue), and the additional general areas (specific sites may vary slightly) that we recommend (purple). BACKGROUND: On October 19, 2006, the City Commission authorized the purchase and installation of new Bus Shelters here in Sunny Isles Beach, having previously designated the desired locations. Of the twenty-four ordered, all but seven have been installed. They will be installed as soon as the legal documents have been processed and signed by all parties to grant the necessary easements. In the interim, we would like to use the remaining seven units in inventory in' other locations where we already have easements, and will then place new units in those; remaining committed locations when the necessary easements have been obtained. Funds are available in CIP Account 20-600-5620.
