HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2007-1098 RESOLUTION NO. 2007-JQ2] A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A BUDGET AMENDMENT TO THE FISCAL YEAR 2006-2007 BUDGET, IN THE AMOUNT OF ELEVEN THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED FORTY- SEVEN DOLLARS ($11,447), FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE CITY'S SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM; PROVIDING THE CITY MANAGER WITH THE AUTHORITY TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, this year the City of Sunny Isles Beach received scholarship applications from 26 Sunny Isles Beach families, to send thirty-three (33) children to the City's Summer Camp program; and WHEREAS, staff has determined that said thirty-three (33) applicants are eligible for scholarships; and WHEREAS, the City has already received a charitable donation in the amount of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) from the Sunflower Society, to help offset the cost to fund the scholarships; and WHEREAS, City Commission understands the importance of school-aged children having supervised recreational activities during their time out of school over the summer; and WHEREAS, therefore the City Commission wishes to afford all thirty-three (33) applicants with the opportunity to experience the City's Summer Camp program; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to amend the Fiscal Year 2006-2007 Budget to transfer Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) from the Police Forfeiture Account and Six Thousand Four Hundred Forty-Seven Dollars ($6,447) from the Contingency Fund Account, for a grand total of Eleven Thousand Four Hundred Forty-Seven Dollars ($11,447) to the Summer Camp Revenue Account, for the purpose of funding said Summer Camp scholarships. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section I. Approval of the Minor Budget Amendment. REASONS Pursuant to Ordinance No. 2006-244 (commonly known as the Sign Code), adopted on February 16, 2006, multi-tenant shopping centers are required to submit a uniform sign plan for the approval of the City Commission. Under the Sign Code, all signs in multi-tenant plazas must be uniformed in terms of illumination, material, fabrication and sign area, Additionally, the signs must be uniformed in terms of color. Arie Properties, Inc, (" Applicant") has submitted the attached uniform sign plans for the following shopping plaza 16050 Collins Avenue- Arie Prooerties. Inc. Suite 16048 Suite 16050 Staff has reviewed the plans submitted and finds that the plans are in compliance with the Sign Code. Specifically, the plans are in compliance with requirements section 265-58(J) of the City Code. Approval by the City Commission is required when the sign plan is in compliance with the Code. Currently the existing individual signs in this shopping center will need to comply with the Code. Hines, City Gerk MEMORANDUM Honorable Mayor and Oty Commission A John Szerlag, Oty NIanager Susan Simpson, Cultural and Human Services Direct NIay 17,2007 APPROVAL OF A BUDGET A1\1ENDMENT TO FUND SUMMER CAJ.\IIP S Q-IOLARS HIPS RECOMMENDA nON: Based on discussions between Vice Mayor Lew Thaler and Oty Manager John Szerlag, it is recommended that the Oty Commission adopt the attached resolution to approve a budget amendment in order to fully fund all eligible summer camp scholarship applicants in the amount of Eleven Thousand, Four Hundred, Forty Seven Dollars ($11,447.00). REASONS: This year the Oty received scholarship applications from 26 Sunny Isles Beach families to send 33 children to the Oty's day camp program. All eligible applications totaled $16,447.00. The Sunflower Society provided $5,000.00 in funding for the scholarships leaving a balance of $11,447.00. It is the desire of the Oty to assist these residents when possible. To that end, the balance will be provided in part by the Police Department, through the Forfeiture Fund, and the balance through the Oty's Contingency Account. Therefore, it is recommend to make a budget transfer from the Police Forfeiture Fund in the amount of $5,000.00 and a budget transfer from the Contingency Account number 10.519.5990 in the amount of $6,447.00 for a total budget transfer into the Summer Camp Revenue account 10.347.901 of $11,447.00. With Commission approval, all 33 children will be afforded the opportunity to attend the Oty's summer day camp program.
