A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2007-1043, CHANGING THE NAME OF "PELICAN PARK" LOCATED ON NORTH BAY ROAD BETWEEN I8IsT AND 182ND STREETS TO "PELICAN COMMUNITY PARK"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on April 15, 1999 via Resolution No. 99-133, the City Commission approved the purchase of approximately two (2) acres of vacant property located on North Bay Road between 18151 and 182nd Street to create an active park for the enjoyment of residents of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS, on January 18,2007 via Resolution No. 2007-1043, the City Commission named the Active Park located on North Bay Road between 18151 and 182nd Streets as "Pelican Park"; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to change the name to "Pelican Community Park" as it is truly a community park where everyone can enjoy its many amenities including the Pelican Community Center, located across from where the new school will be constructed. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section I. Renaming of Pelican Park. The City Commission hereby declales that Pelican Park located on North Bay Road between 18151 and 182nd Streets be renamed as "Pelican Community Park", Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. Attached is a copy of the approving legislation to assist you in processing this item. John Szerlag, City Manager Susan Simpson, Cultural and Human Services Director June 21, 2007 APPROVAL TO CHANGE THE NAME OF PELICAN PARK TO PELICAN COMMUNITY PARK BACKGROUND: Via resolution number 2007-1043, the City Commission named the park, located at 18115 North Bay Road, formerly known as Active Park, Pelican Park. This park will include the City's Community Center and will be host to many community events. As such, there is consideration to be made to include the work 'community' in the name. Therefore, it is suggested to rename this park Pelican Community Park. The attached resolution provides an opportunity for the Commission to do so officially. DIRECTION: Upon approval of this resolution, the name of the park will officially be Pelican Community Park. All designs and plans will be revised to reflect this name. Agenda Item Date
