A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A
CONTRIBUTION OF ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000) TO
THE BUILD A MORE BEAUTIFUL MIAMI-DADE FUND OF
HANDS ON MIAMI; PROVIDING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO
ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on May 22, 2007 the Mayors of Miami Dade County came together to
launch Hands On Miami's Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund.
WHEREAS, the Fund is dedicated to beautifying and improving the physical
environment at schools, senior and daycare centers, and other community-based agencies.
WHEREAS, the Fund enables Sunny Isles Beach to foster a better Miami-Dade for all its
residents.
WHEREAS, federal funding for non-profits are being reduced; and municipality pledges
are needed to provide the human and financial resources needed to provide Hands On Miami's
high quality programming.
WHEREAS, the City wishes to make a donation, in the amount of One Thousand Dollars
($1,000), to the Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund of Hands On Miami.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section!. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves a contribution of
One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) to the Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund of Hands On
Miami.
Section 2. Authorization of Citv Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date, This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21 st day of June 2007.

On May 22, 2007 Hands On Miami launched the Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund at
the fist annual Mayors' Reception, Your attendance was a clear renection of your municipality's
values in what it is to be a publicly elected agent of change. Hands On Miami greatly appreciates
you taking the first of many steps in making the fund a leality and looks forward to working
together to sustain its core purposes,
Your support allowed Hands On Miami to share a vision of a socially responsible corporate and
government sector that weaves social and environmental concerns into its strategies and
objectives. In front of 20 Miami-Dade mayors and 120 corporate representatives you shared your
city's devotion in making our community a better place. The night's success was furthered by an
opening drive of $25,000 in pledges and commitments from you and your colleagues,
The Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund provides your city the opportunity to strengthen
its non-profit programming, At the same time it allows Hands On Miami the ability to identify
and support your city's community service and civic engagement initiatives, As you know,
federally earmarked non,profit dollars are being cut back and it is Hands On Miami's
responsibility as an intermediary agency to leverage its collaborative abilities within the private,
public, and social sectors, EvelY single dollar your municipality pledges is matched by a $50,000
challenge grant from the Batchelor Foundation to provide the scarce human and financial
resources that your agencies depend on to provide its high quality programming.
We would like to share with you the multiple dimensions of the fund and the future of Hands On
Miami through an exploratory meeting with you or the appropriate city staff. We look forward to
carrying on your dedication and suppOl1 for the Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund and

Approval of Charitable Donation to Hands on Miami
At its regular meeting of June 21, 2007, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2007-
1127, which approved a $1,000 chartable donation to Hands on Miami. Attached is a copy of the
approving legislation to assist you in processing this item.

Contribution to Hands On Miami,~
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution contributing
$1,000.00 to the Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund of Hands on Miami.
REASONS
On May 22, 2007, Hands on Miami launched the Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund at the
first annual Mayors' Reception. At that time, the Mayors of Miami-Dade pledged to devote their
municipalities' support to the success of the initiative with an opening drive of $25,000.
Hands On Miami has sent a letter requesting our donation, ensuring that every municipality
pledge will be matched by a $50,000 challenge grant from the Batchelor Foundation. Our
donation of $1,000 will be used to improve many community-based agencies including schools
and senior centers.
