RESOLUTION NO. 2007- 1111
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A CONTRIBUTION OF
FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) TO THE AFTER SCHOOL
PROGRAM AT RUTH K. BROAD - BAY HARBOR ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS
NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, since 1998, the Town of Surfside, Village of Bal Harbour and Town of Bay
Harbor Islands created the Surf-Bal-Bay after school program at Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor
Elementary to provide said children with fun, after school activities; and
WHEREAS, the school administration has requested $5,000.00 per year from each of
the municipalities that feed into the school; and
WHEREAS, with all the redevelopment occurring in Sunny Isles Beach and with the
demographics changing, this City is now sending more and more students to Ruth K. Broad -
Bay Harbor Elementary; and
WHEREAS, the Principal of Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School has
requested the City's assistance in continued operation of the program by contributing $5,000.00.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. Authorization of City Manager. The City Commission hereby authorizes the City
Manager to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution, which includes
contributing Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to the after school program at Ruth K. Broad -
Bay Harbor Elementary.
Section 2.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of November 2007.

Dear Mayor Edelcup:
We are extremely excited about the Surf-Bal-Bay Recreation Program for this
school year. Due to the generosity of the municipalities that feed into our school
we are able to provide a top quality after school program for our students.
The previous $5,000 donation has always been appreciated and the monies given
have provided many wonderful after-school activities for our children. In looking
ahead, we are again respectfully requesting a donation of $5,000.00 that would
help us continue the program for the entire school year.
Ms. Lauren Perez, the coordinator of the Surf-Bal-Bay Recreation Program, has
plans to include jump rope, computers, art and music activities to the list of
intramural activities.
Parents aI1d students will be excited about the new activities being offered.
Thank you so much for funding this much-needed program for the community.
We invite you to stop by and see the difference your contributions are making to
the children and the school.

RE: Contribution to Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution contributing
$5,000.00 to the Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School after school program.
REASONS:
In 1998, the Town of Surfside, Village of Bal Harbour and Town of Bay Harbor Islands created
the Surf-Bal-Bay after school program at Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Elementary School. At
that time the municipalities committed to making an annual donation to subsidize this program.
Upon incorporation, the City of Sunny Isles Beach joined that partnership as many of our
elementary students attend that school.
The school has sent the customary letter requesting our donation, which has been set at
$5,000.00 for each municipality.
Funding for this contribution is available in account number 10-511.5490.

Dear Ms. Ortenzo:
At our regular meeting of November 15, 2007, the City Commission of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach adopted Resolution No. 2007-1171, which authorized a Five
Thousand Dollar ($5,000.00) charitable contribution to the Surf-Bal-Bay Recreation
Program. It is our hope that this donation helps Surf-Bal-Bay continue to provide
enriching afterschool activities to school-aged children. Good afterschool programs are
so important because they provide safe, supervised, active/passive activities for children
who might otherwise be left home alone.
Sunny Isles Beach is proud to be a sponsor of this program.
