HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2007-1175 RESOLUTION NO. 2007- 1115 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE NAMING OF THE BEACH ACCESS LOCATED AT 17275 COLLINS AVENUE THE "IRVING M. DIAMOND BEACH ACCESS" IN HONOR AND APPRECIATION OF HIS DEDICATION TO THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER AND/OR HIS/HER DESIGNEE TO PLACE SIGNAGE COMMENSURATE WITH THIS DISTINCTION AT SAID BEACH ACCESS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Irving M. Diamond has been an active and outstanding resident of the City of Sunny Isles Beach community; and WHEREAS, Irving M. Diamond has served on many City Committees including the Education/Schools Committee of the Mayor's Advisory Council, Citizens' Advisory Committee for the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department, Community Traffic Safety Team and American Disability Act Advisory Committee, Charter Revision Commission, Sunny Isles Beach Canvassing Board, and as President of Concerned Citizens of North Dade, a past President ofB'nai Zion Men's Club, and a past President of Winston Towers 200 Building; and WHEREAS, through his relentless efforts, has donated his time and expertise for the betterment of Sunny Isles Beach and its citizens; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is a better place in which to live, work, and play, partly due to the efforts ofIrving M. Diamond; and WHEREAS, Irving M. Diamond passed away on October 7, 2007 and this community will sorely miss him; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to honor Irving M. Diamond for his work and efforts for the betterment of the City of Sunny Isles Beach by dedicating the beach access located at 17275 Collins Avenue to his memory; and WHEREAS, henceforth the beach access located at 17275 Collins Avenue shall be named and known as the "Irving M. Diamond Beach Access," with signage commensurate with this distinction to be displayed at that location. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: R2007- Irving Diamond Beach Access DesiS'l1ation Page 1 of 2 Section 1. Naming of Beach Access. The City Commission hereby designates the beach access located at 17275 Collins Avenue the "Irving M. Diamond Beach Access," in honor and appreciation ofIrving M. Diamond's dedication to the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Section 2. Directive to City Manager. The City Commission hereby directs the City Manager and/or his/her designee to place signage commensurate with this distinction at said beach access. Section 3. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution. Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. Susan Simpson, Cultural and Human Services Dire Date of Meeting APPROVAL OF NAME AND LOCATION OF BEACH ACCESS DEDICATION SIGN RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution approving the name and location of a beach access dedication sign. BACKGROUND: At the June 15, 2006 City Commission meeting, it was established that the City Commission wished to dedicate certain beach accesses. It is proposed by Mayor Norman EdeIcup, and before you now for your approval, to name the beach access located at 17275 Collins Avenue in honor ofIrving M. Diamond. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Irving Diamond, who passed away on October 7, 2007, volunteered countless hours to this City and served on many City Committees including the Education/Schools Committee, the Advisory Committee for the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department, the Community Traffic Safety Team and American Disability Act Advisory Committee, the Charter Revision Commission and the Sunny Isles Beach Canvassing Board. Additionally, Irving was very active in his community as past President of B 'nai Zion Men's Club, past President of Winston Towers 200 Building and, most notably, as the President of Concerned Citizens of North Dade. Irving will long be remembered for his work and efforts for the betterment of Sunny Isles Beach. This beach access to be named "Irving M. Diamond Beach Access" is an opportunity for the City to honor his memory.
