P AR1NERSHIP WITH NORTH MIAMI BEAm LITrrE LEAGUE
BASEBALL PROGRAM FOR THE 2008 SEASON
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Gty Commission adopt the attached Resolution to commit to partner
with the North Miami Beach Little League baseball program in the amount of $2,500.00 (Two
Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars) from the general fund.
REASONS:
The North Miami Beach Little League baseball program is offered to all residents in the Northeast
Miami-Dade area including Sunny Isles Beach. They are a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation that
relies on donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events to help cover the expenses of league fees,
uniforms, equipment, coaches, and referees. It is a quality program that follows the guidelines set by
Little League Baseball's national organization. With our partnership, we assist in providing the
opportunity for a baseball program to the youth of Sunny Isles Beach. Donations such as these
allow the league to keep registration fees low to encourage participation by all regardless of
economic status. Scholarships are provided for children of families with economic hardships.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The league has extended itself to include the City in registration days and meetings in the
Government Center for the convenience of our residents. If possible, they have agreed to hold
some games at Pelican Community Park if the baseball field is ready before seasons end.
Funding for this item is available in the general fund account number 10.572.5573, Athletic
Programs.
