Home My WebLink AboutReso 2007-1194 RESOLUTION NO. 2007-11.9-1.\ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING CERTAIN APPOINTMENTS TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEES (WHICH COMPRISE THE MAYOR'S ADVISORY COUNCIL) FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 2008, AS MORE SPECIFICALLY OUTLINED IN EXHIBIT "A" ATTACHED HERETO; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Section 74-8 of the Code provides that there shall be as many standing committees of the City Commission as the Mayor or City Commission deems necessary and that the City Commission may establish or terminate such Committees from time to time; and WHEREAS, Section 74-8 also provides that the Mayor shall appoint the Chairperson, and Vice Chairperson of each committees; and WHEREAS, Section 74-8 further provides that each Commissioner shall appoint one member to each Committee and that the Mayor shall select the Commissioner to appoint the additional member (for each committee); and WHEREAS, further, the Code provides that the City's advisory committees shall consist of seven members who are appointed for one-year terms, commencing January 1 and ending December 31 of each year, which may be renewed by the City Commission as often as desirable; and WHEREAS, Committee members shall be governed by the terms of Resolution Nos. 2004-644 and 2004-666, the Rules of Procedure that govern the City Commission, and the Florida Sunshine and Public Records Laws; and WHEREAS, via Resolution No. 2007-_ the City Commission created and continued the following advisory committees: (1) Community Awareness; (2) Long Range Planning and Intergovernmental Relations; (3) Tourism and Development; and (4) Education/Schools; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to make the following advisory committee appointments, as outlined in Exhibit "A" attached hereto, for calendar year 2008. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Advisory Committee Appointments. The City Commission hereby approves the following appointments to the five (5) advisory committees for 2008, as outlined in Exhibit "A". Edelcup, Mayor ~ December 13,2007 Advisory Committee Appointments 2008 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution making certain appointments to the Mayor's Advisory Committees. REASONS: The Mayor's Advisory Committees were established to give individuals an opportunity to participate in our city government. Appointments are for a one-year term that commences January 1 and ends December 31 of each year and may be renewed by the City Commission as often as desirable. The City's current advisory committees are (1) Community Awareness; (2) Long Range Planning and Intergovernmental Relations; (3) Tourism and Development; and (4) Education/Schools. The City's code provides that advisory committees consist of seven members each. Specifically, the code authorizes the Mayor to appoint the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of each committee and each Commissioner to appoint one member to each Committee. The Code further authorizes the Mayor to select a Commissioner to appoint an additional member for each committee. The City Commission's advisory committee appointments for 2008 are outlined in Exhibit "A", attached hereto. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Committee members continue to be governed by the terms of Resolution Nos. 2004-644 and 2004- 666, the Rules of Procedure that govern the City Commission, and the Florida Sunshine and Public Records Laws.
