A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A
CHARIT ABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE RUTH K. BROAD BAY
HARBOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARENTS AND TEACHERS
ASSOCIATION (PTA), IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($500.00), FOR "TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK"
EVENTS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL
THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, schools everywhere will be celebrating "Teacher Appreciation Week"
during the week of May 4 - 10,2008; and
WHEREAS, during this week parents and children are encouraged to take the time to
thank their teachers for their dedication and hard work; and
WHEREAS, the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) at Ruth K. Broad/Bay Harbor
Elementary School has announced that their school is participating in Teacher Appreciation
Week; and
WHEREAS, the PT A of said school has planned some special activities and treats for
their educators; and
WHEREAS, the PT A has requested monetary assistance from each of the municipalities
in which its students live, to include Bay Harbor, Surfside, Bal Harbour, and Sunny Isles Beach;
and
WHEREAS, Sunny Isles Beach wishes to partIcIpate in this important community
service event by making a charitable contribution to Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Elementary
PTA, in the amount of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), for Teacher Appreciation Week; and
WHEREAS, Section 7.6 of the Sunny Isles Beach Municipal Charter provides that
charitable contributions require the affirmative votes of at least four Commissioners.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Charitable Contribution. The City Commission hereby approves a
charitable contribution to the Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Elementary PT A, in the amount of Five
Hundred Dollars ($500.00), to assist with the activities planned for Teacher Appreciation Week.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution.

Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 17th day of April 2008.

Dear Mayor Edelcup
Schools everywhere will be celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week
during the week of May 4 - 10, 2008. Parents and children will take time to
thank their teachers for their dedication in providing an education and so much
more for our students.
At Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Elementary, we are very proud and fond
of our teachers and will therefore be participating in Teacher Appreciation
Week. Some special activities and treats are planned for our educators. We are
inviting the local municipalities from where the children reside to also
participate in this special event.
As many of the children from Sunny Isles Beach attend Bay Harbor
Elementary, it would be wonderful if the City of Sunny Isles Beach would again
join our efforts, as have the Towns of Bay Harbor, Surfside, and the Village of
Bal Harbor have in the past. Weare requesting a donation of $500 from the city
to assist us in our plans to honor and thank our teachers.
Thank you for your consideration in this invitation. We look forward to
working with you.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution contributing $500.00
to the Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Elementary School PT A.
REASONS:
Many City of Sunny Isles Beach elementary students attend the Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor
Elementary School. The Parents and Teachers Association (PT A) at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor
Elementary School is sponsoring "Teacher Appreciation Week" during the week of May 4 - 10,
2008, for their teacher's hard work and dedication throughout the school year. The weeklong
event will include many special activities and treats for their educators.
The Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Elementary School PT A is requesting support from each of the
municipalities in which its students live, including Bay Harbor, Surfside, Bal Harbour, and
Sunny Isles Beach for "Teacher Appreciation Week" by contributing $500.00.
Funding for this contribution is available in account number 10-511.5490.

Charitable Donation for Teacher Appreciation Week
Dear Ms. Mufson:
At our regular meeting of April 17, 2008, the City Commission of the City of Sunny
Isles Beach adopted Resolution No. 2008-1256, which authorized a charitable donation
to Ruth K. Broad/Bay Harbor Elementary School, in the amount of Five Hundred
Dollars ($500.00), for Teacher Appreciation Week. We are grateful for the opportunity
to help acknowledge the wonderful teachers at Ruth K. Broad/Bay Harbor Elementary,
as they do so much for our children.
Sunny Isles Beach is proud to be a sponsor of this program.
Enclosed are our check and a copy of the approving legislation.
