RESOLUTION NO. 2009- l ~~
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING IN CONCEPT
THE RENOVATION OF THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE
GOVERNMENT CENTER; PROVIDING FOR A TOTAL PROJECT
BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF SEVENTY-FIVE THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($75,000.00); PROVIDING THAT ANY AGREEMENTS
BE APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGAL SUFFICIENCY BY
THE CITY ATTORNEY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the offices of the Cultural and Human Services Department on the first floor of
Government Center have moved over to the Pelican Community Park; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has expressed a desire to renovate the first floor of the
Government Center to provide office space for an Information Center, as well as other offices; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission would like staff to proceed with this renovation project in
an expeditious manner; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to set a total budget for the project in an amount
not to exceed Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars ($75,000.00); and
WHEREAS, this renovation project shall be subject to the provisions of the City Code,
specifically Chapter 62 Purchasing, to include that agreements in the amount of $1 0,000 or more
shall require Commission ratification; and
WHEREAS, any and all agreements for goods and services must first be approved as to form
and legal sufficiency by the City Attorney.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Proiect. The City Commission hereby approves in concept the
Government Center First Floor Renovation Project, in an amount not to exceed Seventy-Five
Thousand Dollars ($75,000.00), provided that any and all agreements are approved as to form and
legal sufficiency by the City Attorney.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.

Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of February 2009.

Approving a Resolution Authorizing Staff to Make Improvements to the First
Floor Facilities in the City Government Center
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the Resolution authorizing staff to
renovate and make improvements to parts of the first floor of Government Center in an amount
not to exceed $75,000.
BACKGROUND
The Commission has directed staff to make certain improvements to areas of the first floor to
include the new Information Center. To keep these improvements on track and ensure quick
completion, staff is asking for permission to proceed with the work. Staff will then bring any
expenditures required in the process back to the City Commission for ratification.
REASONS
Approving this Resolution will allow us to move quickly to make the Information Center and
other areas operable in time for the tourist season.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Funding will be available via a transfer of funds from General Fund Contingency to General
Fund Capital Outlay, in the amount of $75,000.00.
