RESOLUTION NO. 2009- ~
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A CONTRIBUTION
TO THE ANCHORS AWAY FOUNDA TION, IN AN AMOUNT OF
THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS ($3,600.00), TOWARD
THE SPONSORSHIP OF AN ANCHORS A WAY BOAT; AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the A ventura Marketing Council was created in 1988 to carve out a niche
for A ventura and its neighboring communities; and
WHEREAS, the A ventura Marketing Council is recognized as one of the most
successful and progressive organizations in South Florida; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jayne Greenberg from Miami-Dade County Public Schools created the
Marine Academy and is a very strong partner with the A ventura Marketing Council in the
Anchors A way Program and enables sponsors to purchase specially-equipped dinghies for
disabled children; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach will be sponsoring the A ventura Marketing
Council Breakfast Meeting in July featuring the Anchors A way Program at the Newport Resort;
and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to be a sponsor for the Anchors Away Foundation, and to
make a contribution in an amount of Three Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($3,600.00), to
sponsor an Anchors A way Boat.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. Approval of Contribution. The City Commission hereby approves a contribution
to the Anchors Away Foundation, in an amount of Three Thousand Six Hundred Dollars
($3,600.00), to sponsor an Anchors Away Boat for disabled children.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of May 2009.

RESOLUTION APPROVING A CONTRIBUTION TO ANCHORS A WAY
FOUNDA TION
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
The City is sponsoring the A ventura Marketing Council Breakfast Meeting in July at the
Newport Resort, and will be featuring the Anchors Away Program. Dr. Jayne Greenberg from
Miami-Dade County Public Schools created the Marine Academy and is a very strong partner
with the A ventura Marketing Council in the Anchors A way Program. This Program enables
sponsors to purchase specially-equipped dinghies for disabled children, and the City would like
to sponsor an Anchors A way Boat by contributing $3,600, and have a "surprise unveiling" of the
boat at the Aventura Marketing Council Breakfast Meeting in July.
