A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING
THE NAMING OF A P ARK BENCH THE "GEORGE
NEWMAN P ARK BENCH" IN HONOR AND
APPRECIATION OF HIS DEDICATION TO THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH; DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER AND/OR HISIHER DESIGNEE TO PLACE
SIGNAGE COMMENSURATE WITH THIS DISTINCTION
ON SAID P ARK BENCH; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, George Newman has been an active and outstanding member of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach community; and
WHEREAS, George Newman was instrumental in helping the City obtain various
properties for municipal purposes including the site on Sunny Isles Boulevard, the Sunny Isles
Beach Government Center, the Sunny Isles Beach Community School, and for parks and open
space; and
WHEREAS, George Newman has served as a member of the Traffic and Safety
Committee, and as Vice Chairperson of the Community Awareness Committee of the Mayor's
Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, through his relentless efforts, he has donated his time and expertise for the
betterment of Sunny Isles Beach and its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission would like to honor him for his dedication to the City
by naming a park bench as "George Newman Park Bench", the location of the park bench to be
determined.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Naming of Park Bench. The City Commission hereby names a park bench
as the "George Newman Park Bench" in honor and appreciation of George Newman's dedication
to the enhancement of life in the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
Section 2. Directive to City Manager. The City Commission hereby directs the City
Manager and/or his/her designee to place signage commensurate with this distinction on said
park bench.
Section 3. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.

Section 4.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 21 st day of May 2009.
