A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE AND ACCEPT BY
EXECUTION OF, A GRANT MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT
WITH THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF
AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES, DIVISION OF
FORESTRY, TO IMPROVE THE CONDITION OF THE CITY'S
TREE CANOPY, FOR UP TO THE AMOUNT OF TWENTY-FOUR
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($24,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTION NECESSARY
WITH RESPECT TO THE OBTAINING AND DISTRIBUTION OF
GRANT MONIES, AS APPROPRIA TE; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, trees are an important part of our community, and the Florida Urban Forest
Health Initiative is to improve the overall health of community forests by providing grants to
local governments and non-profit groups; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Urban Forest Health Initiative has grants available in the
amount of $1.4 Million, with no matching grants; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach desires to apply for a Forest Health
Improvement Initiative Grant which would provide monies to improve the condition of the
City's tree canopy; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach wishes to enter into a Forest Health
Improvement Initiative Grant Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Sunny Isles
Beach, Florida, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in the
amount of up to Twenty-Four Thousand Dollars ($24,000.00) to improve the condition of the
City's tree canopy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Support of City Commission. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles
Beach hereby supports the improvement of the condition of the City's tree canopy.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager to Apply For. Accept and Expend Grant Funds.
The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby authorizes the City Manager to
apply for, receive, and accept by the execution of, a Forest Health Improvement Initiative Grant
Memorandum of Agreement, and to expend funds in the amount of up to Twenty-Four Thousand
Dollars ($24,000.00) should we be successful in obtaining a grant to improve the condition of the
City's tree canopy.

Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
take any and all action necessary with respect to the obtaining and distribution of grant monies,
as appropriate.
Section 4.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City council of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida:
Section 1. The City Council supports the improvement of the condition of the city's tree canopy.
Section 2. The City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to enter into a Forest Health
Improvement Initiative Grant Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida and
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

APPROVAL TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE AND EXPEND FUNDS
FROM FLORIDA URBAN FOREST HEALTH INITIATIVE FOR
TREE PLANTINGS THROUGHOUT THE CITY FOR AN AMOUNT
UP TO $24,000
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the attached resolutions authorizing the city manager to take the necessary steps
to obtain Florida Urban Forest Health Initiative grant funds in the amount of up to
$24,000 for various tree plantings throughout the City.
REASONS:
This is a new grant opportunity that we were recently made aware of by RMPK Funding.
The application deadline is February 12,2010 with a maximum grant amount of $24,000
and no matching requirement. The notice of award is expected in April, 2010 and funds
available in July, 2010. Grant funds must be expended within 12 months after the funds
are allocated.
