Special City Commission Meeting

CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Edelcup at 6:10 p.m. with the following officials
present:
Mayor Norman S. Edelcup
Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler
Commissioner Roslyn Brezin
City Manager Christopher J. Russo
Acting City Attorney Erica Wright
Chief of Police Fred Maas
Commissioner Gerry Goodman Information Technology Director Derrick Arias

INTRODUCTIONS
Deputy City Clerk Priscilla Walker
Christopher J. Russo greeted the members of the audience and introduced Father Thomas
Honold and Rabbi Mayer Abromowitz.
INVOCATIONS
Father Thomas Honold & Rabbi Mayer Abromowitz each said a pray for the Sister -City
relationship about to be formalized.
PRESENTATION OF COLORS
The Sunny Isles Beach Honor Guard dressed in full regalia presented flags for the two cities
and countries.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Police Chief Fred Maas asked everyone to place their right hand over their heart, as he led
the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
ISRAELI NATIONAL ANTHEM AND UNITED STATES NATIONAL ANTHEM
Ms. Helene Endzweig sang the national anthems for Israel and the United States.

7. REMARKS
Israeli Consul General Ben -Gads gave a few remarks bout the City of Netanya, Israel. He
said that Netanya is the only democracy in the Middle East and that they are lucky to have
such a strong Mayor. He also stated that Netanya was God's gift, a fantastic city and that
they have endured lots of uprising these last four years. Mr. Ben -Gad ended with a quote
from the prophet Jeremiah.
Mayor Miriam Fierberg -Ikar, Netanya, Israel, gave her remarks to commemorate the event.
She stated that this relationship was better than family because the cities got to choose each
other. Mayor Fierberg -Ikar said she was very excited about the future possibilities. She
thanked God that the times have changed and that it is now peaceful in Netanya. She
encouraged us to embrace each other's many different cultures and languages.
Mayor Edelcup also provided remarks for the event, expressing his excitement for this day
and the relationship in general.
8. OFFICIAL SIGNING
Mayor Edelcup and Mayor Fierberg -Ikar signed the official Sister -City agreement(s) with
pens that were designed especially for this historic event. Each city was given two (2)
original agreements - one in English and one in Hebrew.
9. EXCHANGE OF GIFTS
The two Mayors exchanged various gifts on behalf of their respective cities and personally.
10. CLOSING REMARKS
City Manager Christopher J. Russo presented the two Mayors with specially - designed crystal
figurines commemorating the event.
12. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
