HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2009-1393 RESOLUTION NO. 2009- 13'13 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, CO-NAMING 17STH TERRACE, FROM COLLINS AVENUE TO ATLANTIC BOULEVARD, AS "CITY COMMISSIONER. IRVING TURETSKY STREET"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT OF UP TO SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS ($600.00), FOR THE INSTALLATION OF STREET SIGNS AND TO DO ALL OTHER THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE INTENT OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, for several years Irving Turetsky has been an active and outstanding resident of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS, Irving Turetsky was one of five incorporators of the City that assisted in the incorporation of Sunny Isles Beach and an original Elected Official that served the City of Sunny Isles Beach, serving as the City's first Vice Mayor, followed by three (3) years of dedicated service as Commissioner; and WHEREAS, Irving Turetsky has served as President of Temple B 'nai Zion for eight (8) years, and is now President Emeritus, and he was honored in 2001 with the Star of David A ward from the State of Israel Bonds Program; and WHEREAS, on Sunday, March 9, 2003, Mayor David Samson on behalf of the City Commission proclaimed March 9, 2003 as "Irving Turetsky Day" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS, through his relentless efforts, he has donated his time and expertise for the betterment of Sunny Isles Beach and its citizens; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate and fitting that 17Sth Terrace, from Collins Avenue to Atlantic Boulevard, be co-named "City Commissioner Irving Turetsky Street" to honor former Commissioner Turetsky for his work and efforts for the betterment of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Co-Naming of Street. The City of Sunny Isles Beach formally approves and requests the approval of Miami-Dade County to co-designate 17Sth Terrace, from Collins A venue to Atlantic Boulevard, as "City Commissioner Irving Turetsky Street" in honor of former Commissioner Turetsky. The City Manager is hereby authorized to disburse funds to Miami-Dade County for the installation of street signs and to do all other things necessary to effectuate the intent of this resolution. Hines, CMC City Clerk MEMORANDUM The Honorable City Commission Rick Conner, Acting City Manager Susan Simpson, Cultural and Human Services Director March 19,2009 Resolution to Co-Name 17Sth Terrace as City Commissioner Irving Turetsky Street RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution to co-name 175th Terrace, at Collins Avenue, City Commissioner Irving Turetsky Street /175 Terrace. REASONS: Irving Turetsky was one of the incorporators of the City that assisted in the incorporation of Sunny Isles Beach and an original Elected Official that served the City of Sunny Isles Beach, serving as the City's first Vice Mayor, followed by 3 years of dedicated service as Commissioner. In addition, he served his community as the President of Temple B'nai Zion for 8 years and continues as President Emeritus as well as the recipient of the Star of David Award from the State of Israel Bonds Program in 2001. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Once approved, City staff will produce and install the proper signage in an amount not to exceed $600. Further, City staff will plan a ceremony honoring Commissioner Irving Turetsky at a street dedication ceremony.
