A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE TEMPORARY
NAMING OF THE PROPOSED PARK LOCATED IN THE AREA
BETWEEN THE EAST BOUND AND WEST BOUND LANES OF
SUNNY ISLES BOULEVARD AS "GATEWAY PARK";
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS
NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission wanted to purchase additional property for open
space/park purposes in the City of Sunny Isles Beach to improve the "Quality of life" for its
citizens and visitors; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission approved the purchase of real property located in the
area between the east bound and west bound lanes of Sunny Isles Boulevard for open space/park
purposes for residents of Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to temporarily name the Park located in the
area between the east bound and west bound lanes of Sunny Isles Boulevard as "Gateway Park"
until a permanent name is designated by the City Commission.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Temporary Naming of City Proposed Park. The City Commission hereby
declares that the proposed City Park located in the area between the east bound and west bound
lanes of Sunny Isles Boulevard be temporarily named as "Gateway Park".
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
do all things necessary to effectuate this resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

RE:
The temporary naming of the newly acquired area between the east bound
and west bound lanes of Sunny Isles Boulevard as Gateway Park.
RECOMMENDATION:
The staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
REASONS:
THE HISTORY:
The City has been aqumng property over the last year to greatly expand its park
system. At this point, we have officially named every section except the newly
acquired areas between the east bound and west bound lanes of Sunny Isles
Boulevard. There are several advantages to having an official name for each park area
(legal references, grant applications, etc) and so we are asking to name this section. It
has been referred to as the Seaquarium Park, Sunny Isles Boulevard Park, and others, but
we would suggest a temporary name of Gateway Park. This name would apply until a
permanent name is designated by the Commission, preferably after construction of the
park is completed.
WHO REQUESTED IT:
The staff is requesting this naming so we can more effectively proceed with all the
formal processes.
