A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
AND/OR HIS DESIGNEE TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE AND EXPEND
GRANT FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA RECREATIONAL
TRAILS PROGRAM (RTP), IN AN AMOUNT OF UP TO TWO HUNDRED
FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($250,000.00), FOR THE DEVELOPMENT
OF A TRAIL THROUGH THE INTRACOASTAL PARKS; AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTION NECESSARY
WITH RESPECT TO THE OBTAINING, ACCEPTANCE, AND
DISTRIBUTION OF GRANT MONIES, AS APPROPRIATE; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission purchased additional property along the west side of
Collins A venue south of Sunny Isles Boulevard for open space/park purposes in the City of Sunny
Isles Beach to improve the quality of life for its citizens and visitors; and
WHEREAS, on January 28, 2010 via Resolution No. 2010-1519, the City Commission
approved naming the south Collins park system along the west side of Collins A venue from the
southern entryway of the City to south of Sunny Isles Boulevard as "The Intracoastal Parks"; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is interested in development of a trail through
The Intracoastal Parks; and
WHEREAS, is seeking grant funds from the Florida Recreational Trails Program (R TP) to
provide financial assistance of up to $250,000 with a dollar-for-dollar cash match from the City for a
trail through The Intracoastal Parks.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Authority to Apply For and Accept Grant. The City Manager and/or his designee is
authorized to make application to the Florida Recreational Trails Program, in the amount of up to
$250,000 with a dollar-for-dollar cash match from the City.
Section 2. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is authorized to take any and
all action necessary with respect to the obtaining, acceptance, and distribution of grant monies, as
appropriate.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of March 2010.

FROM STATE OF FLORIDA RECREATIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM
(RTP) FOR AN AMOUNT UP TO $250,000 TO BE USED FOR
DEVELOPMENTTHE~ACOASTALPARKS
RECOMMENDA TION:
Approve the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to take the necessary steps
to obtain State of Florida Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant funds in the amount
of up to $250,000 for development of a trail through the Intracoastal Parks.
REASONS:
This is a new grant opportunity that we were made aware of thru RMPK Funding. The
grant application deadline is March 31, 2010 with notice of award expected July, 2010
and funds available beginning October, 2010. Grants require a dollar-for-dollar cash
match. The maximum grant is $250,000.
This grant also has a public hearing requirement for citizen input. We have scheduled
ours for Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 3:00PM in the commission chambers.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Matching funds will need to be included in the FY 2010-11 budget.
