A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE ACCEPTANCE
OF A DONATION IN AN AMOUNT OF TWO THOUSAND FIVE
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($2,500.00) FROM THE SUNFLOWER SOCIETY
TO SPONSOR CHILDREN TO ATTEND THE CITY SUMMER DAY
CAMP PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL
THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach provides a fee for service summer day camp
program; and
WHEREAS, the Sunflower Society is a non-profit organization that wishes to provide
financial assistance to families that would otherwise not be able to attend the City's day camp
program due to financial constraints; and
WHEREAS, there are families in need of this financial assistance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Acceptance. The City Commission hereby approves the acceptance
of the donation from the Sunflower Society in an amount of Two Thousand Five Hundred
Dollars ($2,500.00) to pay for the summer camp fees of families in need of financial assistance.
Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of June 2009.

Resolution to Accept a Donation from Sunflower Society for Summer
Camp
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission consider the attached resolution to
accept a donation from the Sunflower Society in the amount of Two Thousand,
Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00) to fund children in need to attend the City's
summer day camp program.
REASONS:
The City offers a fee for service summer day camp program. The Sunflower
Society, through its founder Connie Morrow, instituted a donation program to
assist children and their families who would be restricted from attending camp
financially. This year, through the efforts of Marjorie York, the Sunflower Society
has raised $2,500 to allow for 3 children to attend camp that otherwise could not
afford to.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This year over $30,000 in financial assistance was requested for 60 campers.
The Sunflower Society donation is matched by the City of Sunny Isles Police
Department up to $10,000. The remaining balance is funded through the
revenues received for the naming rights of the Phyllis and Ranaan Katz Sports
Complex at Pelican Community Park to allow for all verifiable requests to be
funded.
