BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost) The City of Miramar, in an effort to provide their residents with the best water service, has identified sectors of the city requiring upgrades to the existing water mains. The deficiencies identified in these areas are inadequate fire protection, low service pressures and aging infrastructure. CES has been contracted to design approximately 72,000 L.F. of 6-inch water main and services for the City of Miramar, including a directionally drilled 8-inch Ductile Iron Pipe section of 120 L.F. The functionality of the design is for improved fire protection throughout the neighborhoods, which currently has 2-inch and 4-inch water mains. CES is also tasked with locating required fire hydrants to be connected to existing 6-inch and greater water mains. The final product will provide residents with essential fire protection, and it will also increase the water flow and provide better water pressure to the residents. The project is bound by: Pembroke Rd. to the Florida Turnpike and from University Drive to SW 68th Avenue. The CES design team has been vigilant in meeting with the client to discuss the progress throughout every phase of the project thus ensuring that the client's expectations are met, and reaching to a completion of the design ahead of the anticipated finish for this fast paced project. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost) CES is currently providing engineering analysis and design for a closed storm water management system of approximately 0.75 mile along SW 27'h Avenue from US-1 to Bay shore Drive. The purpose of the project is traffic improvements through roadway widening, medians, redesign of intersections and improvements to drainage, parking, lighting, signalization and landscaping. The project is located in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of the City of Miami. The land use is a combination of residential and commercial. Since the roadway is part of an older, well established neighborhood, many different utilities are installed within the Right-of-Way. The project corridor includes a 30-inch water main and smaller water mains, gas, multiple fiber-optic cable duct banks, sanitary sewers and force mains. Other complicating factors in the design are the elevations: low grades and high groundwater table at the southern end of the project, which is directly adjacent to the Biscayne Bay, higher elevations in the mid section, and 'normal' elevations around the northern end. The proposed drainage design has been developed in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the County and the Florida Department of Transportation. The design consists of approximately 70 structures, 3,000 LF of piping and 2,000 LF of French drains, divided into eight (8) independent, closed systems. By creating independent systems, CES was able to develop a design that satisfies the requirements, while at the same time achieving significant cost savings to the client compared to their customary approach of creating interdependent systems Services Provided: ./ Drainage Design ./ Hydraulic Analysis ./ Permitting ./ Interagency Coordination 25. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size. and cost) The South Florida Water Management District required the updating of several pump stations. These pump stations were design by the USACOE and are of the 1961 to 1995 vintage. The District wanted to update the pump stations to current South Florida Building Code standards, and they also wanted to make adjustments for noise abatement. This project was very important to the District, because these same pump stations are currently used for water control throughout South Florida, including Lake Okeechobee. The firm was responsible for the hardening of the pump station buildings enabling them to operate during extreme weather conditions while protecting the operators from the weather related dangers. Specifically the firm provided the structural and mechanical engineering designs and cost estimating for the layer of reinforced concrete on the exterior of the buildings as well as the reinforcement of the air intakes and steel encasements and the concrete for the exterior conduits and pipes for the "hardening" of the pump stations. Additionally, CES participated in a noise abatement study to help reduce the impact of the high decibels within the pump stations to the operators. CES has an excellent working relationship with T.Y. Un, and the success of CES can be attributed to the level of attention and responsiveness placed on all of our projects, 25. FIRMS FROM SECTION C INVOLVED WITH THIS PROJECT a. CES provided training in all aspects of the debris management cycle, reviewing the existing Public Works procedures, the City's Debris Management Plan, and the Hurricane Interagency Coordinating Procedures. Through engaging in hands-on activities, participants were given the opportunity to assist in developing new procedures, and make recommendations to the current plan. The workshop also tested and analyzed the effectiveness of the associated database, providing a simulation session testing the web-based debris monitoring reporting and documentation functions. The exercise also gave officials the opportunity to test lines of communication between the state and local emergency operations centers, the FEMA-approved hurricane monitoring database and its ability to generate the necessary reports mandated by FEMA. The COJ's emergency response staff and affiliates were able to assess their preparedness in response to an event.
