A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, RATIFYING
THE APPROVAL OF A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION
TO THE INTERNATIONAL CHECKERS ASSOCIATION
OF NORTH AMERICA, IN THE AMOUNT OF TWO
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($2,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has a tradition of participating and assisting
various social services programs of interest and benefit to its residents and fellow man; and
WHEREAS, the International Checkers Association of North America is a non-profit
organization whose goals are to infuse new blood and to invigorate international checkers in the
United States; and
WHEREAS, the International Checkers Association of North America is now holding its
3rd International Tournament in International Checkers from November 19 - 28, 2010 at the
Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort located in Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to give a charitable contribution to the
International Checkers Association of North America, in an amount of Two Thousand Dollars
($2,000.00).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Ratify Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby ratifies the approval
of a charitable contribution to the International Checkers Association of North America, in an
amount of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00).
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of November 2010.

Resolution to Donate to the International Checkers Association for North
America in the amount of Two Thousand Dollars
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the ratification of the attached
resolution to provide a donation to the International Checkers Association for North
America in the amount of Two Thousand Dollars.
REASONS:
The International Checkers Association for North America has been sponsoring world
recognized checkers tournaments in the City of Sunny Isles Beach for several years.
These events however have been produced with a very small budget therefore not
attracting the attention that it deserves. With this minimal sponsorship of $2,000, the
City is insuring that the event will continue this year and will have the equipment and
tools necessary to provide a world-class event that is more representative of Sunny Isles
Beach and with greater international media attention.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Tournament attracts top Checkers Players from all over the world representing 15
different countries and will be held at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort with
Opening Ceremonies on Saturday, November 20, 20 I 0 and Closing Ceremonies on
Sunday, November 28, 20 I O. The public is welcome and invited to attend the
tournament as spectators at no cost.
FUNDING SOURCE:
This item was budgeted for and funded through General Fund Account No. 10.511.5490,
Grants to Private Orgs.
