A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF
A BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
FROM CDW GOVERNMENT, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED
FOURTEEN THOUSAND FIFTY DOLLARS ($14,050.00), A TT ACHED
HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department's current battery backup system
for its network is at its life expectancy and can no longer be expanded to allow for the current
power demands of the devices in the server room; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach desires to purchase a battery backup system
for the Police Department's network which prevents systems like the Police Department's CAD
system, the phones, the phone recording system, etc. from turning off in the event of a power
outage or burnout; and
WHEREAS, CDW Government has available the necessary battery backup system that
will provide for over an hour of backup power, and will be able to continue to grow with the
Police Department's needs for the next ten (10) years barring unforeseen circumstances; and
WHEREAS, the City determined that COW Government provided the lowest price and
best value and wishes to purchase a battery backup system from COW Government, in an
amount not to exceed Fourteen Thousand Fifty Dollars ($14,050.00), attached hereto as Exhibit
"A", with funding through the Technology Program Grant #201OCKWX0481.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Purchase. The City Commission hereby approves the purchase of a
battery backup system for the Police Department from COW Government, in an amount not to
exceed Fourteen Thousand Fifty Dollars ($14,050.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of January 2011.

Approve the purchase of a battery backup system with CDW
Government.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff is recommending the City Commission approve the attached resolution to
purchase a battery backup system from CDW Government for the Police Department.
REASONS:
The proposed system is a battery backup system for the Police Department's network.
The system prevents systems like the Police Department's CAD system, the phones, the
phone recording system etc. from turning off in the event of a power outage or burnout.
The original system purchased could not be further expanded to allow for the current
power demands of the devices in the server room. The new system will provide for over
an hour of backup power, and will be able to continue to grow with the Police
Departments needs for the next 10 years barring unforeseen circumstances. Furthermore,
the old system was at its life expectancy and would not be eligible for continued support
through the manufacturer, APC. The new system comes with included support and
warranty .
Market research was conducted to identify alternative sources of supply, best value, and
staff obtained three price proposals (see attached tally sheet) and determined that CDW
Government was the lowest price and best value for the City. Therefore staff
recommends that the City Commission approves the purchase of a battery backup system
with CDW Government in an amount not to exceed $14,050.
